More Senran kagura means more Yagyuu, how does she handle the trip over from portrait lets find out.
Surprisingly Yagyuu for the most part is unchanged and that is more to do with her lack of ability to use certain systems in the first game so going in to this game she is not really at a disadvantage of playing bad
Yin mode/ non turnover form
Yagyuu is keep mostly the same with only just slight property and one major move change. Alot of her moves like her jumping X has been made better because it was one of the worst attacks in the original game as well as her jumping Y. They are not great but at least now they can be used. Her basic YYY string is as good as ever and covers so much space still. its lost it great juggle abilitys though so no easy mode infinite. her staple Y Attack and A cancel or Y>A>Y>A is still very much strong and the base of her ground game only diffrents is there is greater push back when attacking so you will need to make changes to your movment. But thats just the nice stuff the best thing is that she has finally became a projectile character. with her new XX string she now can shoot projectiles and unlike the first game where you needed perfect timing you don't need that at all because you get atleast 3 shots and you can cancel back in to the first of the 3 shots at any point opening up a whole new gameplay style for her. So now with ranged and close combat covered what else can she get.
Yin mode/ turnover transformed form
In this state she is givin some new attacks most of which are from the first game and have not changed much but just how less combos they do but also she is givin the use of her ninpou's Her first ninpou is basicly the same but seems to do less damage. its you basic "get of me" move and has some follow up after depending on if you get your opponent to fall on it our not. Her second ninpou the strongest in the original game you can say has been nerfed to almost no range and no use. its just a waste of 2 bars now going for that when you have her final ninpou. Yagyuu's air ninpou feels like more im sorry we messed this characters air moves up in the last game so here is this. Basicly she rains down a bunch of kunai on her enemies giving her a nice move that covers her front and back as well as multi hitting but thats not all the fact that she back flips when doing the move means she can keep on doing it as long as she has meter. While the ninpou is not very strong the ability to keep combos going or get good positining from it is was important. I would say they more then made up for her lack of air moves from the first game even if we had to give up the 2 bar ninpou for it.
Senran mode/ secret art unlocked
Again like most she is much slower and will depend heavy on her ninpou and limit breaks. Yagyuu is one of the few that constantly gets some cool new strings in each form and while they are hard to use they are fun and cool to look at. In this form her air Ninpou is great because when you are pushed back by your enemies and you tech the fall you can use the ninpou to not break your combo. so thats just one more good use of it.
Yang mode/ bikini form
This where things start to get real because not only can you die easily but Yagyuu is givin a new string where she spins her umbrella over her head leaving her front exposed for attack. now this may not seem like much but when one of the characters with tha lagest attack range and space does this thats bad as one bomb to her gut and she is dead. you really have to watch your attacking and general movment in this form. lucky she has her new air ninpou to always fall back on to get her back in the game Thats of course if your are managing your meter since the Yang mode brings that element into play for alot of characters her being one as she is a close range fighter and her ranged attacks are too slow to sit back and pick enemies off.
My Final thoughts on Yagyuu is she was much better thought out then in the last game and now can play close, ranged and Air something few characters can do. So In burst she has finally come into her own but still keeps that original design and flow to her that was so good in the first game.
