Yello people!
I see that a fair amount of people seem to make their own signatures/avatars etc. Would it perhaps be a nice idea to have a graphics section on the site? And then even maybe little themed contests? I'm not sure if the site is big enough for a decently-scaled sig of the week contest, but maybe sig of the month? I'm not sure about the specifics and I sure as hell have no clue what comes with adding such a section, but I was just wondering whether other people maybe had interest in such a thing.
Or wait... is that the art section?
Then maybe this a suggestion for a sig of the week/month type of thing?
My bad...

I used to run one on an old site. The difficulty lies in keeping people interested, as well as people keeping up with it. Given SIA's current population, monthly seems a lot more likely to succeed. Spread the news around, have people post here. If I see a decent turn-out, I'll definitely host it.

I can attend to this when the activity is full and more people are gathered because I can agree with Poog here. The site is still a bit inactive and I don't think a lot will care.
Plus, I don't think a lot of users know how to do that stuff yet so...yeah.

It's too bad. Sounds promsing, but both Poog and Ayanami make good points. Only time will tell whether this could prevail or not.

If the participant amount is likely to be around 10 entrants, I would absolutely run it monthly.

The problem would be if the entrants are the same people. Without a good amount of new participants it could get old after a year or so. Hopefully that won't happen.

Within a year or so it'd grow though. Not just that, participants can strive to improve. So I doubt it'd get old that quickly, just that it could be a bit tough in the beginning.

What! Somehow this topic went nutsy when I wasn't looking!
That was exactly my worry. The only other forum I was on that had a GFX section was HUGE, and even there it didn't get much attention.
I don't know how this works, but perhaps we can have the sig of the month showcased somewhere on the site or something? As a reward? SIA isn't huge, but I'd be pretty honored to see my work up here somewhere (I must admit not knowing how easy that is to do technically though).

A hall of fame type thread wouldnt be out of order or anything, so I could set that up as well. Beyond that, that'd be up to fox or SM, but I can only imagine that happening if it really boomed. Still, even if its the same 10 or so participants, as long as they strive to improve and a good theme is done for each week, it could work. But I'd like to see if its even worth running in the first place.

Poog, yeah I figured it'd be like that. How about we just make a list of participants, everyone that wants to signs up, and we see how far we get? If the first (couple of) time(s) it goes well, then maybe we can approach one of the people that works on the site (I'm not sure who 'fox' or 'SM' are... guess that shows I'm still new XD) about our ideas. If not, then there's also no need for them to put in effort for a lost project. Though if there are only 10 participants, always the same ones, then I still think that's no problem. We can do it so that we decide together on the first theme, and that afterwards the winner of the previous contest decide the theme of the next one (I do think that having a theme is always the best), and if we as participants try to take out some time to give some proper feedback and some proper justification for our votes as well (no voting for yourself of course), we can indeed all learn as well. Then it's maybe more of an organized signature-making group than a sig of the month contest, but it seems fine to me. Of course, it could also just go booming. SIA isn't maybe huge, but I do see most people that are active with decent signatures, so maybe there's more to get here. So, the list! Just copy/paste it and add your name. thesameguy, and @ayanami, if you're both still interested, please use the list! 1. TheAtom 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.

I'm not super fond of deciding together on a theme, as it'd be things like "Lets just do characters from ________ game" and so on. I'd like to give you guys some challenging themes to have you improve as artists. Sprite themes, stocks, abstract, etc.

Oh sure! If you have experience with coming up with good themes, bring it on! I'm awful at it anyway XD

Yeah, generally just themes like Senran Kagura, Resident Evil, food, etc don't challenge artists. They will often try the same thing over and over but with different renders. I think its much better to push them out of their comfort zones to learn something new.
I'd also like to add, since you mentioned it'd be an honor to have your art featured on the site, we do accept user submitted banners! All you'd have to do is submit em to me, and if its good, I'll give it a theme. We actually have some themes still in need of revamped banners if anyone wants to try their hand at it, since college is murdering me or I'd do em all myself.

Don't you think it is a bit early to push people a bit harder like you suggest?
You can actualy intimidate the artists if you push them too hard.

Not right away of course. That'd be too much, you're super right. I just mean a bit further in. And of course, I actually plan to link them to 2-4 tutorials if the theme requires a certain style. I was actually thinking one of the early on tutorials would require the users follow a tutorial to make it.
