XSEED and Marvelous should not drop the ball with western Estival Versus marketing and focus on promoting its multiplayer, ninja action, roster, and things that aren't of the NFSW side (that stuff will sell itself, no need to go indepth with that). as well as remind the mainstream it supports 60 fps 1080p, which is always on demand and expectations from PS4 hardware.
Estival is already sandwiched between huge releases like SFV, NSUNS4, EA Sports UFC 2 and the first Star Wars Battlefront DLC expansion. XSEED and Marvelous should really educate the masses just like how Koei is doing with Samurai Warriors 4 Empires with its website and trailers.
though the advantage is, Senran Kagura is something 100% brand new to the console masses. So it is very refreshing compared to Koei hack n slash games, and something easier to learn than EA Sports UFC 2, and more content filled than SFV and Star Wars Battlefront, as well as a brand new story and cast of unique playable characters, whereas Naruto fans already know what happens in NSUNS4.
Senran Kagura Estival Versus has much more purchase/play incentives than Onechanbara Z2 Chaos, so there's more incentives for XSEED and Europe Marvelous to promote Estival Versus sooner and better in the west. their Shinovi localization promotions should be surpassed with Estival localization promotions. this industry has competition and as publisher, they have the responsibility to make sure Senran Kagura reaches peak sales on PS4.
with the region's very nature, already it's likely PS4 version will sell a lot more than the vita version in the west. vita's popularity is opposite from what it is in Japan. regardless, they should promote both versions, especially the PS4 version, partner with the PSN blog, remind people of March 15 and Estival Versus's debut on playstation console. and if they put more emphasis on the online multiplayer, they could convince those that would get this for the PVP, while holds a lot more replay value and challenges than the campaign.
a niche series like this really requires double the effort from the publisher to make it sell more in the west. and it can surpass Neptunia sales numbers if they really support it. I already see a fanbase surge of promotions and hype for Neptunia V II, something Estival doesn't seem to be getting. XSEED and Marvelous should not sit on their hands with this debut. don't let the other companies win in the hungry hungry hippos race for consumer interest, Estival Versus can get a bigger chunk of the pie if they start really promoting it as the best game of 2016, because that's what any ambiitous publisher that sees Senran Kagura's potential would do.
and as other franchises have shown, the better the marketing, the better the sales, and the more incentive for developers to do more for the sequels, which in turn increases the quality and success of the franchise as a whole. if SKEV gets surprising high sales, perhaps even more than the amount of sales Valkyria Chronicles got on PC, that could establish Senran Kagura as a flagship mainstream series for PS4 moving forward which then in turn we could see bigger budget and better made AND more content filled and gameplay refined Senran Kagura games coming to PS4.
otherwise, if the sales are just satisfactory or mediocre or bad, Marvelous will either drop the series or only do the bare minimum (like what happened with Arcana Heart, AH3 sold so mediocre that they just rehashed the same game twice to milk that instead of making a big true sequel. Now if it sold as much as SFIV, bigger things could've been planned for underrated series like Arcana Heart. even SSFIV added 10 times more than what Love Max added. )
Sales, especially in the west, can determine a franchise's growth . Senran Kagura got this far due to its successful start, but if it's to survive, it has to aim higher just like how Estival Versus is raising the series standards in general. Staying in its crib (3DS/vita) isn't going to help it in the future. 3DS fanbase have a short attention span for perverted niche series, and vita is irrelevant in the west compared to its console siblings.
at least they were smart enough to choose PS4 instead of xbox. on xbox it would tank and be wasted just like Guardian Heroes, one of the most underrated games of all time. PS4 is the best platform for the series moving forward. it's up to XSEED and europe Marvelous, and the western consumer sales to help Takaki see that fact. this masterpiece should be making at least Demon's Souls/NSUNS2/Dark Souls sales numbers in the west.
