So, I'd say this deserves a thread here - I can pretty it up later if people are interested.
Anyway! This is the Dragon Ball thread! For all your Dragon Ball anime needs! There's a new movie coming out this summer, as I'm sure most of you may already know, but you may not yet know that today, a brand new anime with Akira Toriyama himself leading the charge was announced! It's coming out in July and it should be pretty exciting to see.

Well, there was that one game... Too bad it was about as canon as GT and 95% of DBZ movies

Jokes aside, I use to watch Dragon Ball a few years back. Can't really remember much sadly.

You have to remember that the series was always a shounen (as in for kids) series. If it helps ease your concerns any, Kamen Rider Gaim aired on Sunday mornings and it was full of all the Gen Urobuchi goodness you'd expect it to be.

Don't you consider the original a bit violent for a kids show?
And the "shounen" label stands for a teen show, not a show for kids. The word used for kids is "kodomo" and is used for shows like Digimon Tri (that I'm waiting for the announcement and nothing new comes). Even if it is a kids label as you say the kid should be at least 10 years old to watch it and that is a stretch.
And I don't know the Kamen Rider series very well. I watched few of them.

Not... really? Ehhh, maybe. I don't think DBZ is too old for kids, honestly. I mean, super young kids maybe, but 7-9 seems as fair as anything else. They might not understand it as well, but it wouldn't hurt them either. Faiz had monsters stabbing people in the heart (and you got to see the hearts getting stabbed and turned to dust) and Gaim just a couple years ago was pretty bad. Those are all on the Super Hero Time block on Sunday mornings, so I think it'll be fine.

And thanks to the original dubs of the anime (Saban being average, and Funimation being shitty at first) the violence was tuned down considerably. And being kids, they most likely won't know about the bad voice acting, or the fact that the original Japanese version is a lot more serious in tone and was edited to be more kid friendly. All they care about is the action. In any case, I'm looking forward to this Dragon Ball Super! :like:
