Figured this anime was worth watching since I'll likely be getting the vita game when it comes out.
So for those who saw Episode 1...thoughts?
For me personally I think I like it? I knew what this series would likely be about and I like yuri. It does go pretty far though which took me by surprise (ex: I was expecting only kisses to be what transforms the girls...LOL). I feel like there wasn't enough story in this first episode and that it lacks the charm of say SK since it's more intense and serious. I definitely plan on watching the rest of the series though.

Well, this was an interesting introduction to the anime. It's kinda weird, but I do like it.

I noticed it's getting a lot of backlash from people who are saying this is one step away from being full blown porn.

I can't say I have much positive to say about it.
If I were a more cynical sort, I'd even go as far as to say it made me more hopeful for the mobile game over this.
Hopefully the game game won't disappoint.

It's... well, it is what it is. So far the only thing it has going for it are boobs and action, neither of which can make a good series without the help of some sort of mix of plot/humour/interesting characters... I'll be watching the show, as it will heavily influence my decision to get the game or not (if localised of course).

I'm thinking the game will have to have more going for it simply because it can't rely on the ability to actually flash boobs like the show seems to think it can, but hopefully it'll maybe stop that after this.
I am noooot hopeful for that, though.

wasnt expecting so much nudity, and exposed nipples, but I got no problems with that. it was a really enjoyable anime, that reminded me of some older ones, where full boobage were more common

Mermaid being lewd as hell was obvious to anyone who actually put attention to the promotional materials and teasers they released in their time. so anyone complaining about it, well, it was their own fault really.
Personally I found the characters to be the strongest element of the show, everyone was very likeable and had perfectly defined personalities that played off each other perfectly. The story was a pretty standard shounen but even then, it had its good amount of twists and seriousness going on to make it stand out. Overall, the series was a pleasant surprise and the perfect introduction to the franchise. Here's hoping it gets a second season.
Also a little bit of trivia, despite the erotic content the series gathered a huge female following. Nearly all the fanart is being done by girls and women were the majority on the different events they did to promote the show.

Mamori is typically really disliked from what I've seen. Other than that, most of the characters seemed kinda like... Just a bunch of nothing, with the exception of like 3-4. Actual plot only finally popping in at episode 7 of a 12 ep long anime made everything feel rushed as hell. As for twists, not really. The whole Akira thing was super obvious from the moment he's onscreen. If they fixed the pacing and had less useless episodes, and replaced characters like Mamori and Mirei, it'd be much better as far as I'm concerned.

I guess you're talking about the western fandom? Because she's still pretty well liked by the japanese fanbase. Literally the three more popular characters for them are Mirei, Momoka and Mamori.
Every character helped to develop the plot and having pretty well defined roles, even minor characters like the couple of mooks that face Mirei in the first episode had a relevant role in the finale. The only time the plot took a backseat was in episode six and that episode was mainly used to set Meifong's role and skills.
The twists I'm talking about are the ones related with Mirei's past and the AAA organization. No one saw coming the reveal of her enhancement or the truth behind the SOLDIER program.

i just theorize that girls maybe less shy about sexuality and anime. it always seems to be guys complaining about that stuff for some reason, saying that it makes them uneasy to watch. with the exception of feminist bitches, I cannot recall any girls who complained about an anime/game being too sexualized
maybe I hang out with too many bisexual/lesbian girls.

with the exception of feminist bitches, Off topic for a sec, but please do remember that there is a difference between feminists and feminazis.

I wasn't bothered by the higher amount of lewd since the show was upfront since the start about what it was offering and in a weird way, that helped me to accept those things as something natural within the setting. Is completely different to the SK OVA where the nudity was added just to turn off the viewers and thus it feels utterly jarring and completely out of character for the girls. And yeah, usually the harshest critcism comes from people that gets VERY upset by lewdness and refuse to see past that.
