Yello people!
So, I like Star Wars. I'm sure at least some of you like Star Wars. I've seen the new movie. I'm sure some of you have seen the new movie.
I have a lot to say about it, stuff I liked, stuff I didn't like, but before I go nuts and write everything, I'm curious on whether any of you have seen the movie and feel like sharing your thoughts? And what you thought of the original three movies, and the prequels!

I grew up with the original three and was obsessed with them watching the VHS tapes until the tape stretched. When Episode I came out I have never been so excited to see a film, and then it was a major disappointment and I felt nothing but indifference for the prequels which felt hollow.
I fell out with Star Wars and never got into EU stuff. When Force Awakens was announced I was curious, but not really hyped up about it. I saw it with friends and family over holidays and over all I liked it. It felt more like Star Wars with the characters and worlds. I understand them being safe in many decisions to win people over and that the story is really only ~33% done. My only real complaints were utilization of Captain Phasma and making another Death Star type weapon. Other than that I enjoyed the battles and characters and all.
I will say for the first time since 1999 I am excited about Star Wars and am looking forward to Rogue One and Episode VIII.

Cool. I like the Star Wars franchise. All movies were great. Of course some of them were more enjoyable than the others for me but I still haven't any complaints. Currently my favorite is Revenge of the Sith. Contrary to most fans my favorite era is the Clone Wars. I just find it more interesting. I also saw the new movie last week. I really liked it. My only complaint was that Captain Phasma's introduction was kinda pointless. She didn't really had that much of a part(Unless they decide to bring her back).
Anyway, can't wait for the next ones !!!!

I never watched any of the films aside from clips, but I did play the Lego Star Wars Complete Triology game. That's a start.

I have heard of all the films, and even played a shitload of the Star Wars games (Battlefront, Republic Commando, KOTOR). The new film looks pretty sweet tho.
Also, Jar Jar Binks.

Ah cool! Some different opinions already! Couldn't have gone very differently I guess xD I grew up with the prequels, somehow having seen Episode 1 in the cinema (I don't know if there was an age restriction, but I was 5 when it came out... so I'm not sure whether that's evena correct memory of mine...) as my first introduction. While I can understand some of the criticisms of old-timers against the prequels, it's not like the first ones didn't have nonsense happening *cough* ewoks *cough* and the biggest problem I had first watching the older movies was the horrific acting at times. In the end, I quite love all 6 movies though. The new one... meh, no fan. *spoilers ahead* Rey felt incredibly overpowered, now she might turn out to be Luke's daughter, but even then. Dude required quite some training to learn these things, and, without any of that, she's using mind tricks (like, What?!), force pull (come on, really?) and manages to hold her own in a fight against a sith apprentice. Sure, he's wounded but this is nonsensical... Which brings me to the second point. At this point, Kylo Ren and Snoke (Voldemort and Thanos' fanart-like fusion) are the least imposing enemies in the movie series. Darth Vader and the Emperor, Darth Maul and Darth Sidious, hell, even Dooku and Grievous were badass as fuck. Kylo is just such a... whimp. I know the idea is for him to be in doubt and everything but... remember Anakin killing Mace Windu? Remember him fighting Obi Wan? Can you recall the moments? The chills running through your spine, the emotional blabla you know what I mean. Kylo killing Han was supposed to be that moment in the movie, but it was underwhelming. Nah, I did not like him.

Star Wars was basically my first movie - I still have the original trilogy on VHS. I am proud to be a Star Wars supernerd. I own almost every SW story ever published - comic, novel, or young adult book. I haven't had as much luck getting the short stories or RPG supplements though. I've played most of the games (KOTOR 2 with the restored content mod is probably still my favorite), though I still need to play the Jedi Knight and Rogue Squadron games. I've seen most of the cartoons too, though not Droids, Ewoks, or Rebels. I've seen all the movies (even the god-awful Ewoks movies), and loved Force Awakens, though I don't like that Disney abandoned the old expanded universe. I still try to make all my old EU stuff fit with the new EU, since only the post-Force Awakens stuff definitely wouldn't fit. I honestly didn't like that *character* died in Force Awakens since it made it impossible for any of those EU things to happen.
At least most of the new Expanded Universe is good. Lost Stars might be one of my all time favorite SW books. Aftermath should never have been published though.
In terms of the movies, I'd rate them, from best to worst: Empire Strikes Back New Hope Force Awakens Return of the Jedi Phantom Menace (for some reason I actually liked Jar Jar..something is wrong with me) Revenge of the Sith Attack of the Clones Holiday Special Ewoks movies

Seen the first 6. Love the orginals, hated the prequels (I can tolerate Clone Wars though).
Haven't gotten to see the new one, but I had it all spoiled for me day one. I'll still probably go see it even though I've heard some rather mixed opinions on it.

Am I the only one that feels like The First Order feels like a jumbled unorganized mess compared to the Empire then? Oh, and Jar Jar is my childhood hero, anyone that thinks else can get a fullblown 'So wude!'

Am I the only one that feels like The First Order feels like a jumbled unorganized mess compared to the Empire then? Oh, and Jar Jar is my childhood hero, anyone that thinks else can get a fullblown 'So wude!' They wanted to recreate the feel of the original and in terms of sets, worlds and props nailed it. Story wise it leads to some issues. I didn't get how there is Republic that runs things yet supports a Resistance to the First Order. My idea would have been the Republic runs everything and the First Order starts a war defeating the Republic creating the need for the resistance. It is a mixed bag for me as liked characters, but found story to be just okay giving the m benefit of th edoubt that 8 and 9 will explain or expand aspects. My film ratings Empire - 10/10 Hope - 9/10 Jedi - 7/10 Awakens - 7/10 Sith - 5/10 Menace - 3/10 Clones - 2/10

For sure, I can understand that if you expected the dark, spacey environments from the original three and came across the bright almost fantasy style world of Naboo in ep 1 that it wasn't what you were hoping for. Indeed, they nailed that feeling in ep 7 again.
But how come a team of brainwashed soldiers has 1 that decides to choose what's right for himself, and another CAPTAIN that is not even willing to give her life for The First Order (while she's even supposed to be all militant) and allows destruction of their master weapon for a gun on her head... it feels silly to me

My main issue with the prequels can be put into 2 categories.
1. It all felt fake - Yes, I know they are all films, but I never felt like the sets costumes, action, and people were real. It felt like a play or ballet on a stage and constantly pulled me out while viewing. I don't blame the actors, when Liam Neeson and Sam Jackson are so dull I put that on lazy directing. Even the light saber fights lacked emotion or intensity which is the heart of them in older films.
2. Expectations - When watching the originals I built in my mind what the Jedi were like, especially Yoda, in my mind. I imagined an eastern style temple with warriors monks meditating by waterfalls. I never expected it to be in a city at a skyscraper with light sabers being the focus. Seeing Yoda jump and flip around really bothered me and felt out of character for someone who said "Luminous beings we are, not this crude matter".
So Force Awakens in certain ways felt "real" again and because it is a sequel expectations aren't there as much because it is uncharted territory. I agree there are plenty of questions and at times it felt a bit rushed or lazy to advance characters quickly. Maybe I am spoiled on modern television where character arcs can take 5-10 hours, but films in general feel like "Wait...so you learned this in a day?"
The critical point is did I like the characters, and I did in this entry. In the hands of another director I think episode 8 could be great and lots of fun. I am holding off condemning a lot right now because have two more films to tell this story.

Ah I get that. 1 is something that isn't noticeable for a pre-teen and I don't think older me is capable of seeing it differently. I'm definitely looking forward to 8 as well as the spin-offs though.
