Hey guests and lurkers alike, SIA is growing quite a bit. Around 3000 likes on Facebook, 3000+ followers on tumblr, and we're gonna go back to working on our twitter again.
On that note, we get a lot of guests daily, but not so many of those people join. So, please give me your thoughts, critique, etc. What would make you join? What can I and the other staff due to entice you, short of stuffing money into your pockets? Please give serious answers and the like. Thanks!

Honestly? The site's design just looks really bad. The colors are very high contrast and it hurts to look at them. Putting high luminosity colors like white, magenta, and neon green next to each other are generally a design no-no and make the site look unprofessional.
From a strictly administrative point of view, rather than use Proboards(which also looks very unprofessional and has ads) you could just buy yearly hosting for cheap(say, $20 a year), install your own forum software, and put your own banner ads that'd target things your users would be interested in. And, rather than advertising money going to Proboards(by using them your content is working for them and you're making them money), it would instead go into your pocket which you could then invest back into the site. You could even use the profit to add additional features like galleries or your own wiki(instead of the wikia wiki, which is again, making money for someone else instead of money for your cause.)
Other red flags from what I've seen of this forum is too many boards dedicated to unrelated things and a lack of moderation in the Estival Versus forum. Seriously. There's a 345 page topic there right now. There's no point in even having an Estival Versus subforum if every bit of discussion is just going to be crammed into one topic. Like for example when the Sakura Edition was announced, a new thread in the Estival Versus subforum about the Sakura Edition would have been better than just posting it in a thread where it'd be buried.
Another gripe would be allowing animated signatures. They take up too much bandwidth on mobile but even without considering that they're distracting. A bit hard to focus on what you're reading when there's a 400 pixel animated flashing movie occupying the same space.
Even though I occasionally visit as a guest to cross reference Senran Kagura things that I look up, I wouldn't consider joining because it all looks very unprofessional. There are some things here that are being done well but they're completely overshadowed by the things I've mentioned.

Cool, appreciate the feedback. In response to those...
Some of the themes are not my work, I'll take a look at the Sakura theme for those bits as I haven't given that theme much of a look. You're not wrong though, so I'll be re-examining the themes.
I may end up doing that at some point, the primary issue is that I'd need to look into bringing current stuff like threads and whatnot elsewhere. Thats where the real problem lies; and I'll be very honest, the original head admin no longer visits, and he never left any means of contacting him. I'm not entirely sure how much I need him for that kind of stuff, so... I'd like to think theres a way around it, sure, but we'll see what happens.
You're not exactly wrong about that, I'm gonna think on rearranging things.
As for the signature thing, again that is something I agree with. I recently enforced a new rule to limit your signature to one image, or two small ones, as people were cramming absolutely massive images into their signature. My main concern is taking away people's freedoms. SIA is for a niche game, so we knew we'd never draw in an absurdly huge crowd either. So its important to me and others to have it remain at least somewhat chill.
Again, appreciate your feedback. If you've ever got any other thoughts, please do let me know.

Give aways would be good plus updating twitter accounts that link news items pending to the series.

But we do have a twitter that updates with all the news and then some. yeah I don't doubt it that many people won't be able to afford giveaways, but it works wonders for all those people out there who want freebies. also i wasn't saying buy anything, sometimes games come with dlc codes and if you get extra's you can give it way. Heck if i had any extra ones lying around i would definitely offer it up as a prize.

Tbh I thought about the themes thing and the big sized animated signatures too.
And about the Proboards issue... I know you are hosting here because previously this was a small community but, with donations plus advertising, maybe we could get a better hosting (we did it with a Touhou Project forum and it was great, but the main admin messed it all and the community went all wrong).
If the original admin is MIA, do you really need him for these things?
EDIT:
What about trying to get more official talking with the XSEED and Marvelous Europe community managers? The guys in these companies, and not only talking about the CM, are great! We can try to do something.
EDIT:
Maybe we could rearrange the forums and make them feel more focused. Put all the offtopic into one forum and then, inside it, a subforum for each (Movies, Videogames, etc). The art forum should be out of the offtopic.

What would make me join... That's a good question.
I use forums pretty regularly and I really like the Senran Kagura series, I just found it last year but each game I play I'm becoming more and more interested, and having somewhere to discuss it would be pretty cool. I just found this forum a few days ago while looking at the Senran Kagura Wikia since I saw it mentioned there. That being said, the topic (SK) is already great, but the other importance is the community, I haven't read many threads here but how are the users in general? I'm a pretty friendly person, so if a forum has a unfriendly community I don't bother much joining/being very active.

I am just new in here and I was checking this forum for quite some time before joining. As some said, here is a lot of material from over the years and some of the stuff is really interesting but as here is also lots of fans, messages might get lost quickly. Unfortunately big forums has often issues like topics keeps to get lost and topics come quickly too big and feels unorganised. I can say that as someone who was following these forums as a reader, this was sometimes the case. I tried to find some stuff I was reading but when I tried to find it next time, I wasn´t able to find it anymore. Sometimes only thing what helped me was to go to search website and search with keywords you remembered. By the way, does this forum has an activity tracker on your profile? It could be good to see just with one click where youve posted the last time. Also from my earlier forum experiences, too big animated signatures also slow down some computers a lot and might not look always cool. On forums I´ve been earlier, it´s been one of the things which is often a problem and one of those things the forumers often battle about. Often solution has been that the forum gets some sort of guide about sizes and do those who can´t make their own, have got some sort of official signature maker and problem has been solved. Of course commercials are also one thing but you get rid of them yourself if you just want to. Also on my short time here, I´ve already had a problem few times when pages, especially front page just takes a long time to load for a reason or another. I guess it´s Computer related through but my internet connection is not bad. What after all got me to join was still the fact that I like Senran Kagura and I would think the fans of Senran Kagura will appreciate a bigger forum like this. These days forums are just not so easy anymore in the world of social media´s . Also as Senran Kagura is just as it is, I think some people are a bit scared just to join for here. So in short, keep it simple, keep the forum in good condition, keep it fresh , give lots of options for people to make the forum as them prefers with a bit of rules like with sizes (themes, signatures etc. ) and I think the forum keeps running well.

Technically, we already made a rule regarding what to put down on your signature. As for animated pictures, it's a good idea to not make it too big. Be more courteous for others.

I'm a pretty friendly person, so if a forum has a unfriendly community I don't bother much joining/being very active. I'll be totally honest with you. Having been on many forums, often with some of the most obnoxious members I've ever met, I find SIA to be a huge, refreshing atmosphere. Ever since I took over its only gotten better. Yeah, we may have a few bad eggs from time to time, but only 2 or 3 for roughly 1,000 members isn't bad at all. Even then, every community is bound to have a few undesirables. What I can tell you though on a lighter note, is that SIA is super welcoming and I'm very proud to have this userbase, as the vast majority of members are friendly, welcoming, and just plain great in so many ways. Also mixaj, we do actually have rules in place for those things! 200 px height signature limit, and with gifs we're not super strict, but we ask that you try to keep it down to a small gif, like an animated sprite. Refer to my Jotaro signature for reference. Typically when someone's signature is too big, I just ask them to get rid of it, and they do. As for searching for things, activity trackers, and so on, this is all proboards. I'm occasionally looking into new plug-ins and whatnot, but I am limited in what I can do unless we ever had someone willing to pay for us to move to a better forum service. I also do not own SIA technically, I took over cause the original admin just up and disappeared. I'm working with the hand I've been dealt, really.

Poog, It´s good to know what is going on in here and thanks for your answer. As I said, I am pretty new in here despite checking the forums few times but so far, I am quite happy to what I´ve seen and you are right, most fans seems to be really friendly and here seems to be a good athmosphere. Also what I liked when I joined up was that so many said hello, including admins and it gives you a feeling that people actually care and also push you to be more involved. As I told in my intro thread, I am really looking forward to spend more time here and get to know more people.
Also indeed, I know the problems with proboards too from my previous experiences but it´s also giving you lots of tools like to make more themes and stuff like that which always aint possible with some other Basic forums. Gif´s and signatures are also always tricky topic. Some fans complain for Super colourful and flashy ones and some instead keeps them cool. It´s nice to hear that here is a good balance.
Still I think you guys has done good job so far. Forums are very tricky these days to have a decent member base and it requires lots of work. Social media´s these days are super strong and example on some other forums I´ve been, people don´t write so much to forums but uses the chat feature if the forum has an own chat room.
So keep up the good work admins and moderators and if I would be you, I wouldn´t do much. Good communities keeps to get more fans and have a decent base because them are active, has nice members and because we enjoy about them.

Honestly I'd join if I could start playing New Wave, which basically entails a menu navigation guide for New Wave that has working pictures. I wouldn't mind if it was old interface, it still helps.

We've actually just started a new team for SIA, and I believe one or two members are now working on a spiffy new guide!
