We are introduced to Asuka in the first game and much like the story she proves to be more then what you think but is that enough?
Asuka benifits greatly from the simple formula of the mechanics in Potrait. In Burst alot of the girls were all forced to find there own place and style but in this game she was able to shine within what was givin.
Yin mode/ non turnover form
Much like Ikaruga once all the moves are unlocked this form can be one of her best and most fun forms you don't even need ninpou. The amount of attacks she has is very limited but the freedom in movment and the way they can be done or used is miles long. Somthing as simple as doing an air combo then knocking the enemy into the ground (bound) then picking them back up and flying up after them canceling in to your one manual combos at this point is just so fun and never gets old.
Unlike Ikaruga she does not suffer from frame drops much and has greater control over her air moves at a much faster and consistant rate, the Problem with Ikaruga was that she had a sword holder and pulling the sword out always had to be factored in to your moves when moving as high speed along wth frame drops, luckly Asuka can just attack and in this form her push back rate for attacks is also much smaller so you can get in way more hits. In short even with out Ninpou she shines in the system of Potrait because she is so simple yet can use all the many tricks in the system that not all character can use.
Yin mode/ transformed mode
The biggest changes here are all the new moves and they are keep simple and effective. her new jumping attack launchers giver her the ability to perform triple jumps, one of the few character that can also her new spinning attack is a nice ender that can be worked right in to your 2nd ninpou for max combo's her first ninpou again not all that special but the second is good and can be controlled to aim where it ends off. Her whole Yin forms is all about freedom and giving you simlple tools and letting you do what you want with little restrictions.
Senran mode/ secret art unlock
Like I said before Asuka is one of the few that can use all the diffrent style in some way or another. in Potrait Senran mode is more about movment and less about the skill of your movment to avoid attacks like burst. In this form she is much harder then Ikaruga to use because she has a smaller attack range on her attacks then Ikaruga so its much harder to get that movment and rhythm going, but once you get its started it will feel natural. The reason for the change is because all moves have a greater push back rate and you have a wider dash and move slower so the range of Ikaruga's weapon makes this much easier for her with Asuka you kinda have to find her way to your targets but she can still keep up. Outside of the major movment changes and a few new moves none worth noting there is nothing else major.
Yang mode/ Bikini form
Xfactor Asuka has arrived. In this mode its as if she was a Super saiyan Xfactor character from MVC3 she is so fast. If you played with her and your movment was on an 8 now its on a 10 and you have to react much faster. its great fun and while this form has the less amount of combo's not counting infinites. The fun is short lived as nothing stands too long agains her since she is so fast and can attack way more times them she use to with the added speed givin. Also that unlimited limit break helps alot.
In the end I would say the Potrait Asuka is just more fun and while she is technical its less on a stressful level and a more on a want to learn more level and thats where the big diffrence in the two are.
