Most old animes were pretty good in the past. There weren't really a lot of problems with them. But I digress.

Utena (and Penguindrum). Votoms. 12 Kokki. Millenium Actress. Akira. Eva. Cowboy Bebop. Dozens and dozens more. Most old animes were pretty good in the past. There weren't really a lot of problems with them. But I digress. There was lots of crap too. The major difference between new and old anime is that today's anime has completely embraced its niche status. Today's anime is only aimed at otakus, it has lost the popular status it had during the 80s. It's no longer relevant for most people, and it's probably condemned to die. Have you tried watching Nadia (Secret of Blue Water), Sherlock Hound, old Lupin TV series, Future Boy Conan ?

Great post. anime was reaching for more back then if it was movies or long running series. Now like what was said it is now in the hands of the otaku and that pretty much it. This then leads in to things like games which is one of the reason why the japanese game industry looks to be behind there is no age range for those that want japanese games like the walking dead or the last of us so everything is young kids and teens and adults with phone. the inde devs also play on the 25 to 35 year old but japan does not have this base so games dont move forward and when they do if there is no cute girls in them they die.
