I really hate to say it, but I'm starting to lose my fondness for Yumi, the effects of the Wolverine publicity she's been suffering from are finally getting to me. I wouldn't have a problem with the heavy promotion for her if other characters were getting the same kind of attention, but the exposure Yumi's getting truly is coming at the expense of every other character in the series. I mean, just look at the newest poll! None of the other characters are even close to the level of votes she has right now, and that saddens me, because even when I did actually like her, I still liked the other characters more, and thought that Asuka and Homura were just better leads. I don't know how much more I can take. She didn't even get decent development in Estival Versus. Hell, Ryobi was the real star of the show, there. If anyone deserves the spotlight, it's her, not a character that no longer has a direction after her big debut. After Shinovi Versus, everything that made Yumi so appealing just seemed to disappear. They could've had a big story dealing with her coping with the conflicting ideals she learned, but instead, they...really didn't do anything at all with her besides chuck her around everywhere like she's freakin' Batman. She's being beaten into the ground and I don't know how much more I can take. I don't even want to save pictures of her on my laptop or play as her in the games anymore.

On one standpoint, I agree that overly using Yumi to keep the series going can be too much to bar. I have favorites other than Yumi, and I'd like for them to have some spot light as well. However, the fan part of me is happy about Yumi's popularity, and I still love her. On the recent poll, I voted Yumi on the spot, with little hesitation. And from time to time, I still go back and play with her in Estival Versus. When I think about it more, I don't care if people start hating Yumi because of her popularity in the series, I'm still a harcore fan, and I don't think that'll be changing any time soon.

NOTE: This is going to be a somewhat long post, so if you just want the simple and short version of it, skip down the bottom of this post. Personally, I do not hate or harbor any grudge against Yumi. It does not bother me that she has become the most popular of all the Senran Kagura characters over the past few years and is beloved by a vast majority of the fan base. To me, she is an interesting character and I will admit that I do enjoy all of the official/fan art that has come out for her along with playing as her on Estival Versus. However, it is the mass over-saturation of her character in comparison to the other characters that has gotten me slightly irritated as time has passed. As ateliertohka mentioned, her exploding popularity has been having a negative effect when it comes to the majority of the other Senran Kagura characters as a whole. While Yumi is getting massive exposure, being used in the majority of the promotional content along with other stuff as her popularity soars, most of the other Senran characters are getting left behind and left out of the limelight as time passes. I'll give you an example of this. My favorite character in the franchise is Katsuragi, primarily for her perverted antics, personality, and great figure. There are other Katsuragi fans on this site as well (including our wonderful bossman Poog ) who appreciate and enjoy Katsuragi for what/who she is and how she fits into the franchise. However, due to the fans in Japan not liking/enjoying Katsuragi as much, she has been slowly getting phased out as a character (most likely due to her low popularity with the majority of the fan base) and now has pretty much been reduced to groping and sexual harassment (as Poog once posted in response to something I posted in the Shoutbox about Katsuragi). It can be seen below: Is it directly related to Yumi's exploding popularity among the fan base? I can not say for sure and I won't fully blame Yumi for it, since I don't know all of the exact details and how the trends among the Japanese fan base work, but it is sad to see it happening to my favorite character in the franchise. I am sure there are other users on here (who are fans of other characters in the franchise) that are getting frustrated seeing Yumi being plastered everywhere while their favorite character(s) seem to get left behind, only getting/making sporadic appearances in comparison to how often Yumi is used nowadays. TL; DR: Yumi's exploding popularity may be good for the franchise in the short run, but it is coming at the expense of the majority of the other characters and might hurt the franchise down the road after fans finally get worn out and tired of Yumi due to over-saturation. Fans of other characters are disappointed/frustrated when their favorite character is getting shafted by Yumi due to her staggering popularity, and even some Yumi fans are starting to tire of just how much she is being used nowadays.
