Hey guys, you may not have known that I posted a topic earlier about a Game Maker 8.0 project that I started around June to August titled TwinTails I: Tales From The Canopy. I went on a slight hiatus from the boards to work on the core engine and make it more streamlined and now I'm entering the phase where I need assistance on designing the character and enemy graphics, and possibly more things depending on the further situation. Just to give a quick bit of info on the game it self. It's centered around a young ocelot called TwinTails, a character I made up long ago and based my username on, and his friend Madison to defeat the chaotic forces of an extremist social darwinist and restore law to the land...at least they assume that's the right path. It's key features are - An overall light and soft atmosphere, but dark and edgy story.
- Play as either TwinTails or Madison at certain intervals
- Platform/RPG gameplay akin to Super Mario Bros + Final Fantasy
- A vast overworld with 9 towns and 11 dungeons
- A leveling system, equipment based stat boost, and 5 optional dungeons
- Interesting characters and a large monster-list (my reason for requesting extra contributors)
- Easy-to-learn gameplay mechanics and rewarding difficulty
I cooked up some screenshots of the beta test stages, more should come if I get to it. Before: After: Nice widescreen support. But wait, something still seems a bit awry. The Slime is the first and only enemy that had work done on her, as far as graphics go. Here's more. So I just need graphic designers to help create the characters and vast amount of enemies and anything else if it crosses my mind. I don't really have a soundtrack either but that's a different priority. The game is being made with Game Maker 8.0 Pro and a modified version of Hello Engine III. But for now you just need any image creation software that's better than MSpaint. No JPEGs, I will not accept that blurry format, PNGs are only allowed. When I finish it, I'll send the sprite base to anyone that decides to lend a hand. I cannot specify a release date or when a demo is coming, but I have alot of free time on my hands so patience is necessary. I'll post more in this topic at a later date, so thanks.

This looks very interesting. Very interesting. I'd share a couple of ideas of my own, but I'm not sure if you'd agree with them or not.

Pics of the...time interval. I can't guarantee a post everyday, so. No, I didn't go nuts with the airbrush tool. With the game's darkness engine, things like coins and flames will provide more light than just TwinTails. One of the many gameplay mechanics present. Alas poor slime girl. All enemies die in a spectacular ALTTP death homage. @dilbert Oh, nice. I'd like to hear them sometime. Dai-TIs that the only music you've composed?

I got tons of music I made mostly game music. Would have to see what I have that fits a platformer. Does this game actually run or is it just art now?

Well, considering the game's subject matter...I suggest the following: A crafting system, while simple can give TwinTails or Madison the bigger advantage over enemies. For example, certain crafting materials can have a bigger damage interval, give you more health, speed, etc. Loot, and lots of it! Well, not BL2 crazy, but there's loot to find, some good, some bad. You can also sell the loot to stores around the game for more cash to buy crafting material, weapons(?) or other goodies. Certain enemies have differing weaknesses, which allows for more strategy (e.g. slimes are defenseless against slag water, but invulnerable to fire) Easter eggs (This one's optional) Destructible environments. Ground and rock can be destroyed with bombs or pickaxes to create tunnels for loot and other assorted goodies

It doesn't matter when the music comes, what matters is if it's good. The core gameplay is close to finished, now is the phase where I desperately request more things to make it look and sound pretty.

I read "pickaxes" and decided to cut it off there. The looting and weakness mechanics are already planned. In place of the crafting system, there's an inventory system that you can fill up with new abilities and certain terrain is destroyed by those abilities. You can't keep consumable items like elixirs and panaceas in your inventory, though.

I was just thinking ideas that came to the top of my head.

You need something fitting for the game. I got some sonic sounding tracks. Not much eles you can use with that style.
