That's right, folks! This here will be a catch all thread for all of your tokusatsu needs! Whether you want to talk Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Ultraman, or any other tokusatsu series, this is the place for you! On today's agenda: Kamen Rider Gaim! Is anyone else here watching it? What do you think so far?

After skipping a week, Gaim and ToQGer are back! And not a moment too soon! I will edit this post later with episode reactions (unless someone has come out of the woodwork to talk) once I've seen the episodes.

how funny is it?
And in what style?

Kamen Rider.... how funny is it? And in what style? Hmmm... Define what you mean by "style," since I'm not exactly sure what you mean there. Like, puns versus slapstick and such? That said, each show is different. Den-O, for instance, is more of a slapstick show about time traveling monsters possessing a guy who is a singularity point, while Kuuga is a down to earth police drama. If you want a funny tokusatsu series to watch though, I might know just the show for you if you're interested. Anyhoo, the new episode of Gaim was... very intense. I'll keep spoilers to a minimum since I might be the only one here who actually watches it, but yowza.

Yes in that sense. Sure what do you have in mind? Well, in that case, I would need to return to my previous post - every show is different. Some shows are more similar than others, but most of the recent ones are different from each other enough that I wouldn't feel right saying how the series is as a whole. So, to that end, what do you like? It's actually not a Kamen Rider series, but if I had to suggest anything for someone looking for comedy + tokusatsu, I would suggest Akibaranger. It's not as long as your average show (they usually run for a year, meaning 50~ episodes, while it just has two 13 episode seasons) and it's aimed at adults rather than the typical series for kids. In summary, it's an "unofficial" Sentai series about otaku (and for otaku) who aim to become official heroes while fighting evil in, you guessed it, Akibahara. Lots of more "adult" humor that wouldn't be in the official series, tons of references to anime culture (and official Sentai shows, but you can get by fine without knowing them - I didn't know most of them the first time I saw it) and otaku culture, and overall it's one of the most well written comedies and tokusatsu shows I've ever seen. On the other hand, you might wind up ruined for regular shows after it since it's so good.

For those interested in starting up a series, Kamen Rider Gaim will be ending at episode 47 this September - after that, Kamen Rider Drive will be starting immediately after the following week. If you want to give it a try (we know very little about it right now), then would be the time!

Same here, actually!
Wasn't there a new one recently? Or... was there one coming up, maybe?

Ah, that's a shame.
On that note, Kamen Rider Drive's staff has been announced - not names anyone here would know, I think, but I'll post them anyway: - Riku Sanjo is once again Head Writer with Keiichi Hasegawa joining him (W's main writers). - Takahito Ohmori (Kyoryuger) is producing. - Ryuta Tasaki is once again head director. - Mitsuru Matsuoka (Eternal) is contributing the opening. - Shuhei Naruse and Kotaro Nakagawa are co-composing Drive's soundtrack. Naruse composed Den-O & Kiva + a bunch of insert songs since then. Nakagawa composed Decade, W, OOO and Wizard.
That's a pretty solid lineup, so I'd say if anyone is interested in giving Kamen Rider a try but doesn't want to start a show that's already done its run, jumping on Drive as it starts might be the way to go.
