Seeing these results, I'm really looking forward to the localization. If this is proportional at all to how important the characters were, then it's completely different from the first 3DS titles as far as how the characters were used. Or people just really like pointless and irrelevant characters like Katsuragi and Ikaruga (at least as far as Burst goes, which this is the direct sequel to) for some reason, I guess.

That is a popularity poll, whether the characters were important or not to the story is irrelevant. The fact that Yomi and Ikaruga ranked so high is more because they're pretty much the japanese ideal of a perfect woman.

Ikaruga has lot of fans here. (as far as I know) He thinks characters who have their own stories and those not necessarily affect the main plot are pointless. With a mind like this I wouldn't even downvote this comment, is too much attention. :v

In essence, women that are totally devoted to their families but that aren't scared to bare their fangs when their families or loved ones are threatened. Appearance wise, the common trend is having long hair and dress very femenine. That's why most of the time characters that fit more the western ideal (independent, determinated, not defined by their relationships) get the short end of the stick on manga and anime.
For all it's technology advancement, Japan's still a very traditionalist place.

Well, that is just anthropology 101: the customs and traditions of one culture will define the characteristics of its cultural output. And let's not forget that there's always a certain degree of wish fullfillment present on any kind of media, is perfectly normal for the majority of the audience to gravitate towards those archetypes that fullfill their ideals.

They might as well have not been there in the Hanzo storyline and only served as fodder for character development of other characters in the Hebijo one. Thus, all I was saying was that either they got a lot more noteworthy in this game, which would be great, or they're just popular based on personality alone (which posters above me have pointed out) rather than relevance, which isn't necessarily a bad thing - I didn't say anywhere that I disliked either of them (I've always liked Katsuragi, though it took the Hebijo story for Ikaruga to matter much for me, I admit), I was just commenting on how much impact they had on Burst outside of that is all.

I don't even want to get into this but there will come a time when the next person will want to get into this with you so be prepared.
