Awesome news! Hopefully, this will lead to a bright future for this series (though it was pretty bright already, heh).

It won't lead to localization as long as Mirai is in the game, but Vita owners are sure to meet a bright future at the expense of loyal 3DS owners who gave birth to the series.
I can also imagine this will lead to a Ps3 game (I seriously don't think most Japanese devs have the budget to develop for Ps4, unless they're backed by a mighty publisher) and maybe something on the PC. 3DS support will be cut, or - if lucky - receive a quick, watered down "remake" of Shinovi Versus.
The sales themselves are outstanding for a Vita game, and almost reaches those of Hatsune Miku (the best selling Vita game in Japan so far). It shows that otakus have embraces the Vita. The sales are also comparable to Rune Factory 4 on the 3DS, another MAQL franchise. However, Harvest Moon sales are still a bit better and remains their biggest franchise... at least so far.

Unfortunately, instead of a PS3 game I think a WiiU game would be more likely as the producer has expressed an interest in doing a Senran Kagura game for it to utilize the touchpad. With the WiiU being region locked that would put us in the same situation we're in with Burst. Hopefully though if they recognize the overseas support and still aren't going to localize then will at least continue on region free consoles.

MAQL is on the PS4 bandwagon, it can happen, have you considered a SK title on it would be digital only to cut costs.

As someone with a Japanese 3DS though, I still HOPE that Senran Kagura 2 will be announced for 3DS.
BTW, is MAQL really ready to develop for Ps4? The games will probably look like Ps3 games then.

It kinda is because although I have a Japanese 3DS, not everyone wants to pay up to import a 3DS to just play these games. Importers are one of the reasons SKV sold well. It was confirmed that they will be working on games for the PS4. That's fine if they do (and most likely will), as long as they play good.

I see, but I STRONGLY doubt importers mean more than a few hundred extra copies. The great sales of Shinovi Versus was because: 1) Released on the very same day as the Vita price cut 2) It had an anime that's been going on for almost two months to generate interest for the series 3) New Wave sold more than 200,000 and undoubtely created even more buzz and awareness of Senran Kagura. 4) Downloads are included in the 120,000 number Burst sold 60,000 without anything to help it (well, a few mangas maybe) and without downloads counted - that didn't start until pretty recently.

To give frame of reference
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F - 159,688 Persona 4: Golden - 137,128 Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus - ~120,000
To have third best debut in a system's history speaks volumes about its appeal.

Sales in stores was reported at - 91,639
Meaning that another 30,000 were digitally downloaded. Very impressive.

This can go 2 ways now. there could be a WiiU game in the works because wiiu is in the 3DS and Vita position so if they drop a game they get all the attention again easily. big fish in small pond. but the way there online is set up it does not jive with Nintendo's now so they could just cut there loses. A wiiu game would be the only way to top the Vita game in terns of content.
They have but one hook left and its the DATASS hook since this was not in the Vita version really like the producer said. this is so phrase alone is so famous on the net and its the only hook/ theme they have left to push but this would call for an entire new engine and maybe characters. It comes down to do they want to do the extra work or are they happy with the sales and just make another Vita game at the end of the year.

Sales comparison
First 2 Weeks
Shinovi Versus - 108K (+30-35K digital) = ~140K SK Burst - 80K
Given sales trends on Burst I would estimate Shinovi Versus will sell around 200K in its first year.
Will come back time to time to see how that develops.

I don't think it will do that much, do you think it can really get there? that would be something else. I know the DLC money will be huge enough.
Burst did that low in 2 weeks? wow!
I will wait for we are taking the series on the 3DS in a new direction and the next game is not SK2 but this rpg with 2D still images since thats what all the hardcore rpg players like.

I based expectations on Japanese gaming trends of how much the first week accounts for the first year's sales. On most games it tends to be 50-75% of the sales, the average being around 63%.
Most games bottom out and sell 100-2000 copies each week so getting 60K in next 50 weeks is plausible depending on many factors.
Also, Burst when it launched was hailed as a success and had shortages, especially considering DD was not an option at the time, unlike Shinovi Versus which had it day one (to the tune of over 30K purchases that way).
This could mean weaker legs or greater exposure as demand on Vita was met better than on 3DS. We shall see.

Huge props to Marvelous for the high sales. Looks like this is definitely a flagship series for them.
