MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
So, thanks to the game coming onto Switch, I've finally been able to play and experience it! 7/10, KH2 is still king. But reviews aren't why I'm posting!
So, at the end of KH3, Sora vanishes from existence with no real explanation and you're left dumbfounded, feeling robbed of a perfect ending, and wondering "What the heck was that about!?", all while the credits song plays and credits rolls. Now, instead of enjoying the accomplishment of finishing a series, we instead get sequel baited.
Then, I played Re:Mind, 2/10, waste of time. We learn why Sora vanished from existence, due in part to him breaking life taboos left and right reviving the dead, and meet new character Yozora. At the end of Re:Mind, we see Yozora waking up in the back of a car with him thinking the words "I've been having these weird thoughts lately. Like, is any of this for real, or not?" and Sora's voice being mixed in halfway.
After thinking upon this and many other things, I've come to conclusion about the series as a whole. My theory is that the ENTIRE franchise of Kingdom Hearts was nothing more than a fever dream dreamt up by Yozora while he slept.
My evidence:
1. "Weird thoughts lately."
These words, and the rest of the phrase seen above, are the same words Sora says at the very beginning of KH1, even before that sick remix of Simple and Clean starts to play. And the fact that Sora's voice gets mixed in tells me him and Yozora share the same mind. They are linked, or, better yet, one and the same. Yozora, while he dreams, is Sora. And Sora is Yozora when he's awake. It even says that stupid "Re:Connect Kingdom Hearts" after the dialogue is done. Thus, leading back to KH1, but why? BECAUSE YOZORA DREAMT IT UP FROM THE START! BOOYAH!
2. Kingdom Hearts is overly weird, convoluted, confusing as beat all, and Sora just goes with it.
When you dream, or at least when I do, you just accept what is happening around you. I see this in Sora. No matter what happens in the series, without question, Sora just accepts everything around him as "normal." Any other character would be like "I must be dreaming" or "This can't be real," but Sora accepts giant talking dogs and ducks alongside space travel, advanced technology, regular non-talking animals, Nobodies, hearts, light and darkness, time travel, and EVEN BEING DEAD as "Okay! Cool with me!" Only in my dreams, even when I know something is off, do I ever feel like this.
3. Sora disappearing.
I think that Sora disappeared because Yozora woke up. If I'm right and this is all a dream, then Sora only exists while Yozora is asleep. So naturally, he would disappear if the person controlling him is awake. This also means that Kingdom Hearts exists in a dream realm, while Yozora exists in the real world. I've seen this kind of thing in Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams, and I think it could work here.
4. Sora dying.
I can't quite remember where I heard this, but I remember something about how dying in your dreams is bad or causes weird things to happen. Well guess what! Sora dies! No, him becoming a heartless in KH1 is NOT dying. Becoming a heartless and nobody just means your heart either got stolen or succumbed to darkness. Dying means you just stop living entirely. And this happens to Sora. His soul is then sent to Kingdom Hearts's version of dead world, "The Last World." It is here he breaks taboos and revives the dead multiple times, BUT it is also where we meet the soul of another character; Yozora's female friend who also shares the name of "Sora."
Either way, I think Sora dying is what causes Yozora and Sora to split and actually meet face to face. This is also why this is where Yozora wakes up and starts the whole series over again from the start when he sleeps again.
5. Birth by Sleep
The title says it all. In KHBBS, Ventus does go into a deep sleep in the end, but nothing comes of it. No one is born, and nothing is started. Nothing is created from Ventus sleeping. However, if my dream theory is correct, this title makes complete sense. BBS was initially created as the start of the Kingdom Hearts timeline, you know, until Union was a thing. But if this stays true, Yozora going to sleep would literally birth the Kingdom Hearts franchise in the dream realm.
6. The Secret Movie
This cutscene was WAY too graphically realistic. Sora and Riku wake up in what looks to be a bustling city not unlike New York. I think, they left the dream realm and came to the real world, and the Master of Masters can leap between the two worlds as he sees fit. He might have even brought them there. Otherwise, I see no reason for this particular movie to look this good. It's pretty much borderline photorealism.
7. The Last World
I think The Last World is the gateway between the dream realm and the real world. It's because Sora went here that he met Yorzora in the first place, and it's where Yozora's female friend resides. TWO characters from different realms of existence, not worlds, meeting here cannot be a coincidence. In Kingdom Hearts realm, Yozora is a video game character, but in his world, he's very much a real person.
In summary, Kingdom Hearts is a fever dream of Yozora while he sleeps. He is Sora in these dreams and Sora disappears when he wakes. Sora dying severed their link and has now entered into the real world by going through "The Last World."
Well, that's all I got. Thanks for reading! And remember, I just came up with this, like, two days ago. I doubt I'm right, but it is fun to think about.
