Like Miyabi, during a mission she was in an accident and hospitalised. (Here is sounds like it's saying she was only hospitalised for one year whilst Miyabi description says 3 years. It makes no mention of Imu losing her memories so that may be why.)
After this, for the sake of supporting and devoting herself to Miyabi she resigned/retired from the way of the ninja.
Because she will do anything for Miyabi, she joins her in trying to revive Hebijou.
She wields a long, thick and freely transformable (I'm guessing this means it has many parts so it can stretch) staff.

*I'm sure you've all heard of tsundere characters. The dere bit means she just fawns over Miyabi and loves her deeply. Romantically I don't know, probably just as extremely good friends as she might be indebted to her or something.

Imu may have my favorite design of the new characters for Shinovi Versus.
I hope to get a lot of nice yuri subtext from Miyabi and Imu. Hopefully it isn't as one-sided as Yagyuu and Hibari.

HibariXYagyuu is purely the fans taking Yagyuu's feelings a step further imo. Her feelings didn't come across like that at all in the game as she saw her more as a sister. That's what I believe but I'm not saying I don't like HibariXYagyuu.
As for Imu, it's obviously one sided. Miyabi's audio clips, what she says in some screenshots and the fact that Imu stopped being a ninja and only went back because Miyabi started again are all evidence imo. I think the game might have some sort of 'realisation' at the end where Miyabi finally realises how much Imu has stuck by her all the years and apologises for not realising. Which then leads on to yuri doujin work at comiket \o/

I like her, I like her a lot. Green outfit, glasses, mostly glasses. I also like how she seems like a no nonsense character and just generally awesome. What little I've seen of her gameplay in the trailer reflects that I think.
