Cleaner Famitsu scans: Takaki played safe with this title (and nostalgia too), and he seems pretty happy talking about it at twitter, remembering these 80's-90's beat em' ups. Maybe he aims for a western audience too (not including the "motorboating" (bottom of the second scan), that cleary is his touch). Digging dat KOF artist. Murasame, Kiriya, Hanzo and Daidouji DLC, when? XD

Shiki's my Senran waifu, guess Ranma will be my Uppers husbando. Takaki delivers at everything: Life, Hometown, Being Awesome and Nostalgia.

At least they are pretty ripped, Murasame was all skinny. Well Murasame's art makes him look all hot and bara but then his model is a total twink. So yeah I see your point. At least the game models in Uppers match the official art.

Honestly I don't think it's fair to be so critical of him playing it safe and all. I mean, he doesn't have to make every game a sexfest, and the fact is that there haven't been brawlers like this in a while - those older ones were my first thoughts, and frankly, it looks more done (and more interesting as a consequence) than Valkyrie Drive does already thanks to how little we've seen of that. If this wasn't almost guaranteed a localization, I'd be saying day one import.

Is playing it safe not because lacks sexiness but because it doesn't has anything really new for the genre. Brawlers are also incredibly common, specially on Japan where they have Kenka Bancho and Yakuza going strong. Hell, Uppers is being developed by the Kenka Bancho team and Badass Rumble had more unique features.

The important question is, how long will it take for XSEED to localize this after this is released in Japan? Implying that XSEED wants to localize this.

We saw nothing about the story or the characters yet, they said that will be crazy like the SK games. It looks generic, yes, but I still want to look at this one and play with Takaki's BIMMY and JIMMY, also the last Kenka Bancho was for the 3ds and Japan only.

Until we see an announcement, is the same for this game. Also, this doesn't sounds really interesting gematsu.com/2015/10/first-look-uppers-ps-vita#82XfvyzRkRPt23Hh.99

I mean, beat em ups aren't exactly known for their complex controls to begin with... That's more the domain of fighting games.

Maybe is not your type of game, and that is fine. Sure Takaki aims for a 90's 2D beat em' up in a 3D plane, when you only needed two buttons, one to attack and jump, just mindless fun. It is simple, yes. At least Takaki is making many different games , you pick the ones you like and everyone is happy.

Just look at Streets of Rage 2, Alien VS Predator, the Final Fight series, Double Dragon Neon or Scott Pilgrim vs The World Maybe is not your type of game, and that is fine. At least Takaki is making many different games , you pick the ones you like and everyone is happy. First, brawlers are my favorite kinds of game (the reason I couldn't get into Versus is because they're more musous than brawlers) and second, is just another brawler; Takaki has spent the last five years doing those.
