I honestly just don't like any of the Disney canon...I can't forgive them for throwing out the whole Expanded Universe. Even when they try to reference it (IE, Thrawn in rebels) they seem to miss the point. Just referencing a character or story that got retconned out of existence doesn't satisfy people that wanted it to remain canon.
Honestly not sure if I'll even bother watching Episode 8.
I will say that some of the books Disney published are good, especially the ones by Claudia Grey (Lost Stars actually made me cry at one point, which books NEVER do). And Star Wars Uprising was an awesome game until the management screwed it up.
Anything by Chuck Wendig is an atrocity though. and then he has the gall to say that anyone who criticizes him is a misogynist homophobe? No, Chuch, there are plenty of good female and/or homosexual characters that we like*. The issue is that you are an awful writer. "The TIE wibbles and wobbles through the air, careening drunkenly across the Myrran rooftops - it zigzags herkily-jerkily out of sight" is not a good way of writing a combat scene, books should not be entirely in present tense, periods actually exist for a reason (and semicolons and dashes cannot be used as a replacement for periods), and if you do want a lesbian character her entire character should not be summed up by "she's a lesbian". Nor should your female lead be summed up entirely by "she's a woman".
...Sorry for the rant, I utterly hate both the Aftermath books and the way that Wendig tried to paint all his critics as being misogynist homophobes. He's the worst kind of social justice warrior imo.
*:
Female character examples: Mara Jade. Guri. Darth Talon. Vestara Khai. The Exile. Bastilia Shan. Ysanne Isard. Natasi Daala. Moff Mors (from new canon, a lesbian character who actually has a personality). Ciana Ree (Lost Stars), Jude (my favorite character from Lost Stars). Jan Ors. Lumiya. Saba Sebatyne. Celeste Morne. Jaina Solo.
Bi/Homosexual characters: Jhuhani. Moff Mors (again). Possibly Jude (subtext). Most characters in SWTOR. (Not counting the gay mandalorian couple from the Legacy of the Force books since they weren't really that defined as characters, but I will say their personalities weren't entirely defined by "those people are gay!")
