I hate the text in this game. Is it possible to make it easier to read? Maybe have add something darker to the bottom so I can actually read what they are saying? Unfortunately, no. The size of the text is a problem for me as well, I'd like to be able to make it 2 or 3 times the size it is now. However, there are no options for the subtitles. Anyhow, just finished the Gessen and Hebijo arcs. Absolutely loved the Hebijo arc, easily the funniest and best-written arc of the four. Plus, finally, the plot is going somewhere! And then... best boss fight ever! Now I've unlocked a 5th story arc, which I will tackle tomorrow. Really interested in the overall story now, this is finally getting interesting. Fuck Jet-R and Jet-K, though. I had to grind Paradise Episodes over and over again to get enough cards so I could level up the Gessen team to the point where they stood a chance in that pain-in-the-ass boss fight. What they heck were they thinking with that fight? Just facing one of the two would have been bad enough, but both of them with no recovery or checkpoint? Why was the Gessen arc's final boss so difficult compared to all the others? From my experience, adding checkpoints wouldn't do much. I mean, Jet-K isn't even hard, I never lost any health to it, the true pain in the ass is getting through Jet-R, because the small arena makes it hard to dodge some attacks. While it's definitely a difficulty spike, though, it's still doable without any upgrades whatsoever up to 2 stars, though: that's what I did and I'm not even that good at shooters.

The boss battles in each story are kinda of weird, aren't they? I had little trouble with Jet-K and Jet-R. The gropy robot and licking robot were about same in tediousness. But giant Ryouna was a ripe pain in the ass! Bad enough I couldn't hit all the soup covering her body, but my team just wouldn't stop get knocked out. I had to save them time and time again while watching my back every second, because enemies were everywhere, and wouldn't stop spawning. Good god, that was awful!

Yeah, Jet-R was the hard part with that BS mobility, damage, and attack range in that confined space. Every time I managed to get past her with a sliver of health left, Jet-K would finish me off. Usually I didn't even make it to Jet-K. Finally I managed to level up the other Gessen members to the point where they stopped dying left and right, and were able to contribute damage. Made it past Jet-R with about 50% total health left, and engaged Jet-K from a distance to win. Even then, he nearly killed me with his stray attacks that would hit me every once in a while. As for the Giant Ryona fight, I had learned my lesson from the Gessen arc and made sure to level the entire Hebijo team up in a balanced manner instead of only focusing on the character I played as. Good thing, because I had played as Ryona up until then, and would have been royally screwed if I had only leveled her up. I didn't notice much difficulty, probably because I was having way too much fun hosing suds off of a giant, naked Ryona.

The Giant Ryouna boss can get pretty tricky at times, yeah. I mean, theoretically with the right weapon you can defeat Ryouna by simply continuously shooting at her before you lose all your lives, but it requires you to know exactly where and when to shoot. My first few times fighting her I got stuck at her last bit of health because I didn't realize where I needed to hit her.

Personally, I liked Peach Beach Splash's story a lot more than Estival Versus. While the P1 Climax arc was comparable to the last day of the Kagura Millennium Festival, perhaps a bit inferior (but not by much, imho, I liked the new villain a lot), the other stories were much better than days 1 through 7 of EV's story. Plus, PBS didn't reuse character traits that said characters should've already grown out of as plot points and instead addresses new issues that I was personally waiting for them to tackle: for example, it acknowledges that Murakumo is getting better at going around without her mask, while it finally explores the fact that Ikaruga and Katsuragi will graduate soon. All in all, I find this an improvement compared to Estival Versus. Yes! The reusing of the same issues they already tackled was a big problem I had with EV, glad to see that changed! I don't want to for a third time go after Hikage to fix the boxer problem...

Did Hebijo first as Miyabi is best girl, then finished up Crimson Squad
"All we have is our bond!"
Feels, yo
Giant Ryona was a pain in the ass, its easy to get mobbed by enemies if you don't pay attention to them.

Blessing in disguise Leo and Yuyaki didnt do anything. I guess they didnt want to feature them hard in a water gun battle game since it seems like the devs/character designer actually care about them. That's a pretty great call cause looking at how hilariously bad Ayame was, they would have had nothing to play with in regards to their characters and would have made them a joke. Souji was getting there. They were really struggling or not trying at all to do something with her for all those two seconds she had screentime. If new waves do anything it should be in their separate game or just in mobile where they are to be treated a lot better. Jet K and Jet R are the only difficult bosses. 0 difficulty to the rest.

Was it truly that atrocious...? I feel like we're not talking about the same game... or the same series at all.

Mmh, I wonder why not everyone in a series composed mainly of action games is immediately good at its third person shooter spinoff as well 🤔

Well I finished the story. That true final boss... I did not see that coming! I'm very happy that they finally decided to move the overall plot forward in this game, it was badly needed. It's kinda sad to see that Crimson Squad is getting left in the dust, though. Their relevance seems to keep diminishing from one game to the next. Once the main antagonists of the series back during their Hebijo days, now pretty much reduced to the series' stand-up comedy routine (moreso than any other group). The only meaningful thing that happened to them in PBS was getting some job requests. Everyone else is moving forward, but Crimson Squad is just "there". I really hope those job offers work out for them so they can move out of their cave and quit their part-time jobs, but no guarantees on that happening. Anyhow, I'm really excited to see where all of this goes in SK7.

I feel like the Crimson Squad's role was actually a step-up from EV. I mean, perhaps it's just my interpretation, but their arc was pretty much them realizing that they don't need to be living jokes to get others' attention, and that all they need is their bond. Plus, their first mission is supposedly defeating Shin, so... it's not that bad. I'd argue that this is the first step in a return to the spotlight, although I might be biased.

I mean, perhaps it's just my interpretation, but their arc was pretty much them realizing that they don't need to be living jokes to get others' attention, I agree with this and I'm happy to see them stepping up. In fact seeing Homura declare their squad as the first among the main cast to actually be true Shinobi put a smile on my face. Not to mention seeing Hikage cry legitimately surprised me, I really enjoyed her in this game when I admittedly didn't care much about her before. I feel if the casts roles were listed from most important to least in Estival Versus it was Gessen, Hebijo, Hanzo following the Crimson Squad but in PBS it feels like it was changed to be more Gessen/Crimson/Hebijo and then Hanzo. The Hanzo faction didn't seem all that important, Katsuragi, Ikaruga and Ayame got development while Asuka, Hibari and Yagyu seemed to just be there for support. Then again I suppose I can say most of the same for Gessen, most of their strife was revolving around Shiki's dilemma, but they're the main characters of the Versus timeline so yeah. All in all it felt like the stars this time around were the whole Crimson Squad, Shiki, Mursaki, Katsuragi, Ikaruga and Ayame. I still have more to do with all the other game modes so I can get better cards. The grind is real
