Something that has recently come to mind for me about this series is that there is very little presence of bisexuality among the characters. In a roster featuring dozens of characters, I just don't understand how Haruka can be the only one among them who is openly bisexual. How is that even possible? Sadly, there are very few bisexual characters in gaming in general, and I can't wrap my head around why.

Well thats because this series doesn't really have much focus on men aside from Hanzo, Kiriya, and Dogen. Tossing in their bisexuality doesn't reach add depth to the characters or even have relevance to the story, that'd be adding it in just because.

In all honesty, this is mainly my desire for more bisexual game characters in general talking. Although these characters aren't real people, it does sometimes prove frustrating when I have trouble finding characters I can relate to in this way. Not really trying to be negative or anything. Just wanted to say where I was coming from.

Well that's because its not always particularly relevant to the story. If you just throw it in at random it just seems forced and such usually. Pointless, even, unless the love interest is super relevant.

In that case, I wonder if there was a way it could be implemented into a character's story arc in a way that could affect that character in a positive way. Of course, it would take a lot of time and thought to figure out, but I do think it would be worth the trouble, and it would be a storyline I'd like to see at some point or another as the characters continue to develop.

I think it would just reduce from Senran, tbh. As Asuka said in Burst, she can't do that kind of stuff. Focusing on relationships and love would largely defy the point of being a ninja. For something like being bisexual to come up, it'd probably end up being some love triangle drama bomb.

I don't mind bisexual characters in any form, but I'll have to agree with Poog here. If it's not well developed and thrown in the story willy nilly, then it takes away from Senran, unless if this love interest has to be really relevant to the story at hand. Otherwise, no.

Well, the only way for something like this to work out is if they create a character that's already bisexual and have them blend in with the cast.

I think you could argue there's a lot of bisexuality going on, although mostly I think they're portrayed as unsure about their sexuality. All semi-romance existing here gets surrounded by "but we're both girls". My guess is it's because taking homo- or bisexuality seriously in Japanese popular media seems rare (same-sex love is almost always answered with the reaction we're used to here). For the characters, this makes it come across like homosexual tendencies, but unsure how/whether to express them, not atypical for teenagers. This probably keeps them in the free for any big discussions (steering clear of the "you're making our children gay" accusations) while adding in what they can in a fairly convincing manner. Tl;dr: in-game sexuality tends to remain vague in SK, and leaves a lot of it open to interpretation. That's probably the best option as well.

what TheAtom said. it basically all comes down to things like fanon and headcanons and whatnot, and i think that's kind of how it's meant to be anyways with regard to a lot of the different timeline shenanigans where anything is possible. a lot of things are left ambiguous. nothing is ever really explained explicitly when it comes to these subjects for these sorts of franchises. the closest thing you'll get is something from Senran Kagura Burst where Katsuragi said she preferred girls to guys because of their boobs when Asuka was asking for advice on how to deal with the baseball player from another school that wanted to date her. it's not really confirmation though, but again, it leaves it up for you to decide from there.
i'm not even entirely sure about the exact thing she said. i just remember her stating that she was a bit more into girls than guys. it's never really mentioned again and she never brings it up, either. if she doesn't say it during the scene, she says it after the scene, in the hub room where you select what you want to do.

WARNING!This is just a opinion of mine. DO NOT take it serious -Hanzo- ASUKA{Spoiler}She is not Bi but lean close to it, judging by her many interaction with Homura. Of course we will never now if she is still into male unless a future games tell us she still is. KATSURAGI{Spoiler}As HikageIsBestGirl mention. Katsuragi says she is into females instead of males because of OPPAI. It hard to tell if she is into male or not & we most likely won't know because of the Character assassination. I will say for now that She is a lesbian. YAGYU{spoiler}She see Hibari as a little sister. Character Assassination happen & now she is HIBARI HIBARI WHERE ARE YOU! HIBARI IS BEST!. I don't know what else to say. HIBARI{spoiler}She see both Yagyu & Haruka as friends so... . -Crimson Squad- HOMURA
{Spoiler}Not sure if she into males but many official artwork portray her doing perverted thing with other females. I will say she is Bi or a lesbian. She did had a crush on a male once or something like that. .
-Gessan-
YUMI
{spoiler}She is into male. If they confirmed she is a lesbian. It will ruins the whole "Waifu" appeal to many of the japanese Yumi fans. .
-Hebijo- MURASAKI
{spoiler}Bebeby is the only thing shes like. Her interaction with Imu come off more as a little sister who want love & care from their older sibling.
IMU
{spoiler}Lesbian from day one.
Ryona
{spoiler}Most likely to be Bi given her nature & all. .
-Kagura peoples-
SAYURI/JASMINE
{spoiler}Unless we get a prequal. I will say Hetero.

TyrantTrickster, if artwork is anything to go by, all of them are at least lesbian (potentially bi) except for Hanzo (the old man) and Kiria... Interactive lewd stuff everywhere... The problem with figuring out whether any of them is into males is that they don't really appear much at all. Indeed, though, to keep fan-dreams alive, I'm sure they'll keep it all in the "that's up to you"-gray area.

I think this is one of those issues where the characters aren’t really bisexual or homosexual or any of those. Or, well, not all of them at least. Let’s take, for example, Asuka and Homura. There is undeniably something going on in there, something more than friendship. In fact, I recall in Shinovi Versus Yumi talking to Homura and saying “Asuka likes you. As in, she likes you.” or something along those lines, to which Homura replies by being a tsundere, which is a clear sign of mutual feelings that she’s embarrassed to confess. However, I don’t think Asuka likes Homura because she’s a girl or because she has a nice body or whatever. Asuka likes Homura because of the person she is, regardless of her gender or anything about her appearance. This is kind of what some Yaoi stories do as well. One guy falls in love with another guy for their personality and the interactions they’ve had with each other, not because they also have a dick. This also applies to many of the other relationships in Senran Kagura, though most of them do have clear signs of sexual arousal from one side *cough*Yagyu towards Hibari*cough*Imu towards Miyabi*cough*
Though, TyrantTrickster raises an interesting point with the idea that Yumi has to remain hetero in order to appeal to the Japanese fans. That instantly reminded me of the disturbing incident that happened to Minami Minegishi from the idol group AKB48. You can read an article about it here, but long story short, a member of an idol band had to do a serious apology for… dating her boyfriend. It’s not like the boyfriend or what she did with the boyfriend was controversial or anything, no, it was just a normal date. But Japanese idols aren’t allowed to date or have relationships because they’re supposed to keep this image of “virginal purity,” basically so that their fans can “safely” fantasize about them having a relationship with the idol. But guess what? Minami’s fans defended her, saying that she had the right to date whoever she wanted! So if the fans are OK with their idols not being “pure,” then what the hell is even the point of that ridiculous rule? So now let’s apply that to Senran Kagura (or any work of fiction, really). We all know that Yumi is mega popular in Japan, and (as far as I know) she isn’t in a relationship with anyone, so she’s still “pure.” But if she canonically got in a relationship with another character, would that really piss people off? I know some people were furious about the whole Naruto X Hinata thing, but that was a small, toxic minority. In the case of Yumi, I think the grand majority of fans would be fine with it. Not to mention, she’s a fictional character, so fans can just ship her with whoever they want in whichever way they want with only their imagination as the limit.
So to tie that back into the original point, I think the sexuality of most of the characters is something very irrelevant to Kenichiro Takaki and the rest of the development team. They don’t make the characters do lewd things with one another because they want to express their sexuality, I think they’re just having fun drawing them. These are fictional characters, after all, so they can do whatever the creators (and fans) want.

Boys may simply be viewed as a luxury at the current time. Given their ninja profession. The profession is very demanding with life risking involved and is ran like its own world.
