it combines RPG elements along with Resident Evil exploration, and other things. Has among the greatest original plot, outstanding mature characters, english VAs (arguably the greatest english VAs ever!!), awesome cinematics, horrific enemies, gothic design, incredible architecture, deep horror lore, vast selection of weapons, magic and more.
it is highly criticized for its combat, however, the combat actually is not that bad. I completed the game, so it really isn't as tedious nor unfun like say...Front Mission 3's combat. the normal battle theme is strange, laughable even, but the regular serious boss battle theme matches Koudelka's gypsy atmosphere.
it's also one of the few games to be 3 discs in size. with 3 endings and a one of a kind experience. I'm glad I played it.
considering a vast among of popular RPGs and survival horror games are popular primarily for their story, Koudelka really shines in the overall gameplay as well, and even the combat provides a wider variety of weapons and abilities than survival horror games tend to have.
