A lot of people seem to be excited for Kingdom Hearts III, but personally, whenever I saw the idea mentioned, I just had to ask myself, "Why would we ever need it?" I'm probably completely alone with this, and that would hardly be a first, but I was always of the opinion that Kingdom Hearts II was a great place to end things off. It ended with everybody home, the core conflict resolved, and the worlds at peace. When I beat it, I was happy to see the story come to an end, or so I thought, at least. Of course, there was no logical way the story could continue going straight after II, because everything was resolved, so you'd think that they'd put it to bed when a logical continuation wasn't possible. But no. Instead, they made it possible, in the most roundabout, ill-conceived way possible. When I first heard about 358/2 Days and Birth by Sleep, I thought that they were going to be standalone stories. An expansion of the story that was already there. And then I learned that they were supposed to be part of a lead-up to Kingdom Hearts III, and thought, "What? Why? I thought the story was over. I thought it was done. How could it possible continue?" And so, the keyblade war and mark of mastery were added to the lore, and everything became so complicated that it's now impossible to follow. But hey, at least now Kingdom Hearts III is possible! But in all seriousness, I really can't help but ask, "Is it worth it?" Do we really need Kingdom Hearts III? Was it ever necessary? Or really appropriate, even. Even now, when we're seeing the final seeds planted for Kingdom Hearts III, it's hard to imagine just how it's going to work. It seems cynical. It feels like a cash-grab. It feels like Square's going to keep making them and beat Kingdom Hearts into the ground. I worry that other series will end up like that. So, I really have to ask, is it really that important that we have Kingdom Hearts III?

its a waste of money and resources. Square and Final Fantasy was better when KH wasn't around. it gives me headaches just thinking about how stupid Square Enix and most of its fanbase is. people complain about FFXIII milking, but KH series is milked multiple times more ACROSS generations, with the worst stories and characters, masked by disney and FF fanservice, and expecting people to buy several platforms to play the various games that tell different pieces of the whole plot/lore. At least FFXIII concluded with only 3 games on the same console/gen.
and freaking Nomura is responsible for that money pit and black hole affecting FF projects. he's also responsible for all the time and money wasted on versus XIII and couldn't even finish it in a decent timeframe. people can criticize Tabata, but he actually made FFXV possible in 2016 instead of later. its story and concept was already ruined because of Nomura's foundation, so its not entirely Tabata's fault, it wasnt his pet project in the first place,
and if Tabata could make a FF from scratch, instead of using Nomura's blueprint, he wouldnt make it some fantasy for homosexuals and misogynists (even the movie screams misogyny.)
Bottom line, Most people are stupid, KH fans dont care how much KH harms the FF budgets and staff allocations. Square Enix of course exploits KH for money, Disney of course pushes for it since they profit from it and have ownership of the series and characters. SE can't even make another KH without Disney's approval of it all.
and on top of that, KH is too immature and caters to the most sponge brained kids. its writing and storytelling insults even the most casual minds. everything about KH doesn't even freaking matter. it's like a soap opera that's had too many episodes and is like a horrible fanfic that is only popular because of the graphics, disney nostalgia, and realtime combat.
but oh well, the mainstream are suckers for it, so SE continues to exploit that brand, even at the expense of their flagship series. Kitase and the CEO are also to blame for allowing that abomination to persist.

I am definitely in the camp that disliked XIII. XIII was pretty dull. The intro dragged on for an unnecessary long time, the battle system was painfully restricting, exploration was non-existant, and none of its characters are really memorable except for Vanille and Hope, who are memorable for the wrong reasons. It was without a doubt, the weakest of the numbered titles for me. On the other hand, I recently started playing XV and have been enjoying it quite a bit. I don't dislike Nomura, but I understand and, to an extent, agree with the criticisms pressed against him. I will admit, I liked the early Kingdom Hearts games, but couldn't get into Dream Drop Distance. I played it for a little bit, and then forgot about it. I didn't like it, I didn't hate it, it was just forgettable. My problem with Kingdom Hearts III comes from the fact that there was already a good note to end on, and I do believe the opportunity for a great ending should've been taken, but that's a thing of the past now. Later Kingdom Hearts games are fine when they're just trying to be action games, but the context surrounding the action isn't really interesting. For me, it's basically average summer blockbuster. I also never cared about a Final Fantasy VII remake. I mean, sure, go ahead and do it, it could be nice, but personally, I don't care THAT MUCH about it. Truth be told, the Square-Enix property that interests me the most right now is Dragon Quest, which I enjoy for its simplicity. I'm happy to see that XI is going to be on both PS4 and Nintendo Switch. It's a nice gesture, and I would love to get it on Switch, if possible. Same deal for the Switch port of Heroes I & II.

That's what I'd like to know. Could make for a great nostalgic comeback.

That's what I'd like to know. Could make for a great nostalgic comeback. SE did say they would let any indie developers try out on making a new Gex game next to some other Crystal Dynamics games a few years back. But not sure if that's happening now. Even though there's a lot of material that they can spoof with Gex now.
