The game was already complete as is. When are we gonna get a new one? Time seems right for SamSho to come back.

well a new Samurai Shodown should definitely capitalize on ultra blood, gore and violence like Mortal Kombat did. Samurai Shodown even invented just defend and "xrays" before MK9. SSVI was such a waste cutting the blood and gore just because it was intended to be a lighthearted festival themed game.
blood and gore was a part of SS since the very first one. and this time there shouldn't be vanishing body chunks, I think Samurai Shodown Sen their body remained visible after cut in half, but haven't watched much of it. anyways, the more brutal, violent and edgy SSVII is, the more mainstream it can become
unlike KOF, Samurai Shodown is a kill or be killed series
look at that, over a half million views, ultra violence sells

anyways, the more brutal, violent and edgy SSVII is, the more mainstream it can become You lost me here. Samurai Shodown was never a mainstream series and most likely never will be. It may have its cult following, but that's about as much as it's going to get outside Asia and South America, where SNK's biggest audience is.

that doesn't mean they should settle with niche. From Software sure wouldn't go anywhere with that attitude.
and MK devs didn't settle with MK just being a mtv version of Street Fighter, they took full advantage of ultra violence and it made it into a mainstream icon.
sure Samurai Shodown has be around for a while, but KOF is more popular than it ever was before KOFXIV.
and Samurai Shodown even more so. it's not late to become mainstream or a more relevant fighting game than before.
Final Fantasy didn't start mainstream, neither did Fire Emblem until Awakening and then Fates.
they could at the very least raise Samurai Shodown to a higher level of relevance in the industry than ever before, and they can easily do that not pulling punches when it comes to blood and gore, two things that sold more games than without it.
and considering the next game could be called Samurai Shodown VII, the number itself has strength to draw more attention to the game and series than its predecessors.

It's not realistic to expect that. Fire Emblem isn't even mainstream, even now. It's appeal is still very narrow. It sure as hell isn't selling Final Fantasy numbers. But that's not my point. My point is this. Just because it happened with a few things doesn't mean it'll happen with everything. To me, personally, "mainstream" means selling 3 million+ copies. That's not a number I expect Samurai Shodown, or any SNK property to sell. It's not a realistic expectation, and frankly, it's foolish.

regardless, they shouldn't shy away from aspects that were already apart of Samurai Shodown since the beginning (blood and gore), capitalizing on that like MK did, would do wonders for the franchise if SNK cares to think outside the box. KOF can be family friendly with its clean hit spark violence, but Samurai Shodown is a monster that revels in graphic violence and could win a larger mature playerbase. it wouldn't make MK numbers, but it would still sure enhance its appeal to more players and greater possible sales.

I wouldn't call KOF family-friendly by any stretch. Some of the moves in that game are quite violent, and I sincerely doubt that Mai or Angel's would fly with the mom-and-pop demographic. There's nothing family-friendly about it.

Come to think of it, since this thread was originally about KOF, I'm kind of surprised you haven't reported on Whip and Yamazaki being confirmed. (Although Yamazaki was obvious.)
