Valkyria Chronicles 4 announced for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch

Launching worldwide in 2018.

Following the launch of a teaser website last week, Sega has officially announced Valkyria Chronicles 4 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch. It will launch in the Americas and Europe in 2018. In Japan, where an Xbox One version will not be released, it will launch for PlayStation 4 on March 21, 2018 and for Switch in summer 2018.

It is the year 1935 EC…

The continent of Europa is engulfed in the flames of the Second Europan War between the Atlantic Federation and the Autocratic Eastern Imperial Alliance. Although the Federation struggles valiantly against the Empire’s forces, the relentless imperial military machine threatens to consume them. With victory slipping away, the Federation executes Operation Northern Cross: a last-ditch attempt to capture the imperial capital and end the war.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 Shares Details On Its New And Explosive Grenadier Class

Following the reveal of Valkyria Chronicles 4 for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, Sega had more to share about the upcoming tactical RPG in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine.

The producer is Katsura Mikami, who was also the producer of Valkyria: Azure Revolution.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 is set in a cold region and set in the same period as the first Valkyria Chronicles.
A new soldier called “Grenadier” is being introduced, and they’ll be able to use grenade launchers to shoot from long range or shoot up to high altitudes. Being able to lob grenades means that they’ll also get to shoot them over cover.
When you have allies up ahead, they can give you the positional information so that Grenadier allies from behind can hit without actually having to see the enemies themselves.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 releases in Japan on March 21, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The game releases in North America and Europe in 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.

Valkyria Chronicles 4’s Development Is 90% Complete, Plus Other Famitsu Info

Famitsu had some new information and screenshots to share about Valkyria Chronicles 4, most notably the fact that development on the game is now 90% complete. They also shared information about the systems and characters of the game.

The series’ trademark strategic Command Mode and Action Mode swapping was shown off, as well as the look of the tank and infantry in the game. The tank is named the Hafen, and is a mid-sized tank made by the United States of Vienland. It excels in firepower and mobility, but lacks the defense of Federation tanks. It is named after Claude’s hometown.

Meanwhile, infantry are split into six classes: Scouts, Shocktroopers, Lancers, Engineers, Snipers and Grenadiers. Lancers in particular were highlighted for the fact that while they are good against fighting tanks, they are weak to other infantry types.

Grenadiers are a new class of troops who utilize grenade launchers, which really act more like mortars. Grenadiers shoot from afar in a high arc that allows they attacks to bypass most cover, which is why it is best to scout ahead for enemies first. They are very strong against both tanks and infantry but cannot attack enemies that are at a close range.

Famitsu also shared new artwork and screenshots of the characters, as well as additional information about several of the main characters. Claude, the main character of the story, pilots the Hafen and commands the troops using his weath of military knowledge and his intuition regarding the weather and environment. While Riley is childhood friends with Claude, they are estranged due to certain past events. Meanwhile, Kai Shuren, the sniper, is very curt and boyish in tone, but is said to be quite kind as well.

Finally, there were a few screenshots of in-game cutscenes, showing off the cold weather that Claude will have to weather in his battles.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 will release for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One in 2018.

The setting is the fictional continent of Europa. Specifically, the entire western region of the largest continent in the northern hemisphere. Since ancient times, many battles for supremacy have been fought in pursuit of the country’s unification.

In the 1800s, the continent of Europa was divided into two major powers in the east and west: the allied nation called the “Autocratic Eastern Imperial Alliance,” which governs the country with an emperor at its center, and the federation of republic states known as the “Atlantic Federation,” which abolished Imperial rule. Eventually, both powers fought over the mineral resource known as “Ragnite.”

In 1935, world affairs steadily worsened, and the Imperial army violated the non-aggression treaty and began advancing onto the Federation. And the greatest war in history, the “Second Europan War,” which engulfed the entire continent of Europa, suddenly commenced.

Claude Wallace, who participated in the war as captain of the Federation army’s Squad E, fought an early battle in the war and struggled to attain victory.

However, three months after the war began, the Federation army, which was repeatedly defeated by the Imperial army’s overwhelming resources ended up in a difficult situation.

After finishing a battle, Claude returned to base and was informed by his superior of a large-scale strategy having begun. It was “Operation Northern Cross,” a major counterattack to raid the empire’s capital city in order to overturn the Federation’s numerical inferiority.

Raz (voiced by Kazuya Nakai)

Edinburgh Army 101st Division No. 1 Battle Brigade No. 32 Armored Ranger Battalion Squad E division officer and Assault soldier. His rank is sergeant. He is aggressive and quick to get into fights, and talks with a rough tone. He tends to misunderstand due to his clumsy personality, but he is extremely caring of his friends.

Kai Schulen (voiced by Maaya Sakamoto)

Edinburgh Army 101st Division No. 1 Battle Brigade No. 32 Armored Ranger Battalion Squad E division officer. She is a sniper master sergeant. She is Claude, Raz, and Riley’s childhood friend, and is usually silent and blunt. With the nickname “One Shot Killer,” she is a prodigy sharpshooter whose eyes conceal a strong purpose.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is due out for PlayStation 4 on March 21, 2018 and for Switch in summer 2018 in Japan, and for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch in 2018 in the Americas and Europe.

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has new information on Valkyria Chronicles 4, including details on six new characters (including a Valkyria) and a new “Brave” system.

Crymaria Levinc (voiced by Yukana) – The Valkyria known as the “Witch of the Snowstorm.” She is the special duty captain of “X-0,” which is the Imperial Science Institution’s special test unit. Because she was forced to live as an experiment at the Valkyria Experimental Facility, she has a strong inferiority complex. She acts alongside her friend, a wolf named Fenrir.
Forseti (voiced by Kaito Ishikawa) – Tactical commander of the X-0 Imperial military unit that appears countless times before the protagonist and company. He injured his leg and thus does not participate directly in battle. He has great confidence in himself and is always composed.
Belgar (voiced by Shou Hayami) – The supervisor of X-0. He is of noble background and is an executive at the Imperial science institution. He has the authority of an admiral, and X-0 are his chess pieces.
Chiara Rocino (voiced by Yukiyo Fujii) – A special member of X-0. She and Nikola were brought up together like sisters at the Imperial research institution. She is assigned the duty of eliminating Belgar’s enemies. She has a sadistic personality.
Nikola Graf (voiced by Naomi Ohzora) – A special member of X-0. Like Chiara, she acts as Belgar’s bodyguard. She is sadistic as well, but unlike Chiara, Nikola is the malicious type.
Klaus Walz (voiced by Hiroki Touchi) – The captain of “Ausbruch,” an independent gang of the Imperial army. He is a veteran commander who charges into battle with the strong conviction to “protect the people living in the Empire.” He battles riding in his personal tank.

Brave System

When a soldier in your army is on the verge of death, there is a fixed chance that a new system called “Brave” will be activated. When Brave is activated, you can choose one from two options:

“Entrust” – Restores one Command Point (CP) and increases the ability of a nearby ally.
“Rise Up” – Restores one Action Point (AP), and enables you to attack and move only once in an invincible state.
