I finally finished Shinovi Versus.
As expected, the Crimson Squad story was the best story of the bunch and the one that reminded me why I fell in love with the series: excelent characterization, great character dynamics and an uplifting story.
However, this put the rest of the game on a worst light. They clearly had talented writers on the project but they just didn't care/half assed their work delivering some awfully mediocre story. Filled with stupid characters, plot holes and erratic pacing. And isn't like Crimson's Squad story is perfect either, the last chapter is by far the weakest of the bunch.
In what it seems the trend of the plot, every time Hebijo shows up writing quality drops like a rock. A shame since they have some really good moments with the Crimson Squad but well, is not enough for all the bull they deliver during the majority of the game.
A shame, since the scene where they recite their creed while fighting Youma was amazing (if poorly implemented) The scene would be so much better without Yumi and Miyabi.
Gameplay wise, there's a good game buried somewhere. But the good thing is overcome by the bad: terrible camera, stupid loading times, awfully designed enemies and in general a flawed game system.
Beating bosses without gettign hit and in record time might seem impressive but you can achieve it by turtling and then just use Ninpos like there's no tomorrow. Hardly a truly satisfactory experience.
...
Man, can't wait for Deep Crimson

Shells = defense. More shell = More defense. Human sized shell = equivalent defense. Something about defense. Yeah, lets use that logic.

If you guys are talking about "turtling", is a term form the fighting community that alludes to players whom spent all the time defending and just attack when is safe for them (this why most games have a guard break mechanic)
It received the name because is akin to a turtle hiding on its shell, attacking once in a while.

Ah! Interesting. Thanks for the explanation. Sure beats my logic.

Problems with the turtle girls? Just dash cancel, they aren't that hard like the maid that snipe you from off screen and do 50% damage.

Problems with the turtle girls? Just dash cancel, they aren't that hard like the maid that snipe you from off screen and do 50% damage. Except you know, the maids were mostly static and with enough knowledge of the level you coul easily come on top. The Turtle assasins are totaly random. In fact, the mission Oil & Water shows everything's wrong with the game. On easy is a breeze even being very tedious, on Hard is a nightmare. If you're shooting for an A rank the damage and time limit is too small and basically forces the player to abuse every exploit available to come on top. You need to use Frantic mode and spam Hikage's Berserk mode (that it gives invincibility) to quickly dispatch the archers. When the turtles spawn you can't let them move because they will hop all around the stage taking away precious seconds, break their defenses is also a pain and isn't rare for you to be sniped (thus messing the damage treshold) if you don't act quick. A good game design must allow for any character to ace every level with enough practice, Oil & Water CANT be aced by all the characters.

Okay, okay. I get the message. Very flawed logic.

It is obvious they would have armor but if their position is random then I can understand the problem he has.
All I will say is SK2 is no better since they all counter so you can't get a good since of flow going. I know you hate going into frantic mode but nothing changes from sv you will need it for good scoring.

Not exactly true, Deep Crimson's camera is mostly static so you can actually know what the hell enemies are doing and plan accordingly. On Versus you don't have that chance.
