I do hate the fact that they're reusing the music from the forest and boss from V and reusing the map theme from MK2, but oh well. The game looks pretty good, and of course the frame rate is noticeable.

Yeah it's pretty laughable how people dismiss something cause of fan service but the funny thing is games like GTA V actually show breasts in the strip club and no one complains about it like i said nitpicking lol. Much of that comes down to cultural relativism of east and west. In the west we do fan service, but we tend to try to mask it within all sorts of aspects. In the east they seem more at ease with being playfully blatant about it. So, a western mind digests visual information of western culture easier to rationalize it. "Yes, it is violent and sexualized and profane, but it is also social commentary." They see eastern works and like a red flag goes up up in the mind in part because animated is seen as childish due to conditioning while realism is seen as mature. Heck, there was a Russian developed game called Metro that had fully detailed female genitalia and it got a pass because it had that in a gritty post apocalyptic hell scape. None of it really bothers me unless I get denied access to games I want.

So basically, the west aren't use to the culture of the east in terms of fan service.

So basically, the west aren't use to the culture of the east in terms of fan service. A culture and its history shapes the minds of its inhabitants. So yes, the west feelings on gender roles and portrayal of fan service has been molded by that. If you are from the west and on here, you are a minority within a minority. You play games, and play niche Japanese games at that. To most people Hyperdimension Neptunia is just odd or strange and it is easier to label something quickly than search for greater understanding. I have just learned to accept that and be happy I get to play them.

I don't have much too say and i know we are the minority but the point i was trying to make is why should the things we like be picked on? just cause it's not accepted by the majority?
Anyways sorry i'm not trying to start some big debate or anything Agi. XP

I have just learned to accept that and be happy I get to play them. Quoted for truth~ American's have a different outlook on what is socially acceptable in society. as augen mentioned before it's on how they can rationalize something to more so fit into western society. For Example, it's ok to show bare women breast in a R rated film, however in the same vain, it's not ok to show a woman or man's genitalia. Also Westerns as a whole haven't accepted that anime...or any kind of animation is socially acceptable to have Senran Kagura level of sexualization as a normal everyday occurrence. In fact, it's almost a red flag since Americans label anime as cartoons and cartoons are for children, thus something like this isn't suitable for children...it's not suitable for our society. It's very narrow minded...I agree but that's generally how most Americans see it. Hence why my dad was lost for words to see my current living conditions. >_>
Either way though, we are but a minority since our taste are that of another countries culture. Neptunia is just unforntunately one of the many things that wont be widely accepted in western society.

We accepted the truth and moved on. We're not going to let people tell us what to like and what to not like.

One one hand, yes smaller groups do tend to get picked on more. The more "out there" they are viewed easier targets. On the other hand, everything gets dumped on. Whole sub culture that considers the main stream media (music, film, television) to be lame. The point is people will always mock things you enjoy, what you or I have control of is how that effects us. As the kids say "haters are going to hate".

I think it's more....
Don't expect Americans(namely game reviewers) to like what you like.

Lets not forget about the hipsters. The dreaded hipsters, but don't you think we're getting a bit into the real world stuff and that we should take this aspect into the real world section?

I think it depends on the reviewer personally but at the end of the day, reviews are just opinions anways, you shouldn't let someone elses opinion sway your judgement.
Plus, Neptunia is just one of those experiences you have to play for yourself~ more or less.

Anyways, on the bright side, the V makers can be recruitable in the main scenario of Re;Birth 1.
