If there's anything/one to put the blame on, it should be Inafume and Comcept.
He was the one who pretty much scammed Marvelous with 4 millions and forced them to have unrealistic expectations to make for it.

What game was this? Nothing comes up on comcepts wiki page that has to do with marvelous but soul sacrifice.
I dont see this as really a mark against SK, just Marvelous didnt do as well last year. Though I dont think we'll see a game for at least a 1-2 years. I'd prefer the series doesnt get milked to death.

Yeah it's good for them to hold off on releasing any more new games for a while. SK2 will be out this summer. DLC characters and outfits will help somewhat with EV's longevity and a western release should hopefully be out by next year at the latest. The robots included in the latest EV patch are a sign that they are looking to enhance gameplay beyond just new characters which is good.

He was the one who pretty much scammed Marvelous with 4 millions and forced them to have unrealistic expectations to make for it. Yeah, because that's totally what happened. Oh wait, no, it's speculation and conspiracy theory with very little to back it up. There's not even he said/she said going on - both companies seem to just want to move on. There are a lot of alternative possibilities for what could have happened and honestly, even if everything had gone as planned, it makes sense from a financial standpoint. If you've followed how similar projects have fared since Kaio was announced, almost all of them have failed. It was likely seen as way too big of a risk after analyzing how the market responds to these things. Considering we never saw anything beyond the initial trailer, I have to question just how much was truly lost anyway. Dude. Marvelous was involved too. Comcept didn't stroll in, say they're making a game for them, and arbitrarily can it a few years later. Who's to say Marvelous didn't decide they'd rather place their bets on something safer like Valkyrie Drive?

You don't simply let 4 millions vanish into thin air.
And after how weird has been Inafune's management of Mighty Number 9's I can't help but be suspicious.

Then that would prove something was happening. Considering Marvelous was the one to make the announcement and Comcept hasn't said much of anything, it honestly looks more like they pulled out on him rather than the other way around. I wouldn't be surprised if the company tries for another publisher someday.
The English speaking forums had a bad moderation choice that now no longer is even relevant. The issue was never part of the core company and doesn't even work there anymore - it was a temporary thing that the main people likely had no involvement with. It was a frustrating situation but not nearly as bad as it was made out to be.
The thing with Kaio is when it was announced, the idea was unique. It's not anymore. A lot of companies have lost a lot more money than that trying the idea and actually getting their thing off the ground. It was bold then, but now it would potentially be suicidal if they put too much into it and it didn't take off, and I don't think either company could take a huge loss like that.

This is the paragraph everyone is talking about. SK2, Bakumatsu Rock and Forbidden Magna did not do the best. Estival Versus and Dekamori, while turning profit didnt meet expectations. Which calls into question the expectations.
So hopefully Colorful IA/VT and Valkriye Drive turn a profit, both being produced by Takaki. I dont know what VD will look like as we know nothing of the plot or gameplay. The models look nice in the pictures, meteorise, the people who did BA are making it. Maybe they'll be better than Tamsoft has been.
IA/VT looks amazing. If you like rhythm games I'd suggest it. Looks great. Great year for rhythm games with that, Taiko, and Dancing all Night. I pre-ordered it. Sold out on amiami, so hopefully thats a good sign. It's got 37 points on comgnet, but I dont know if they are as reliable as they've been. Signs are good for it though.

Doesn't even look like Kaio is actually mentioned then, huh.
I forgot those other games though. Yeah, Forbidden Magna was a flop from what I remember hearing. I would've looked at Bakumatsu if that'd been localized at least.

Kaio is mentioned. in the Same paragraph even, those are just sniped. Those are just the published games for the year. From the looks of its SK2>>Magna>>>>>Bakumatsu. Apparentely Bakumatsu had an anime last year. Here is the pdf , kaio is 3 games that didnt do too hot in the year, they probably caused that to have unreasonably high expectations for EV.

Nice graphics and gameplay seems very dynamic. I wish though they'd include some additional new vocaloids though to provide some variety. Some of my favorite songs in Project Diva F/F 2nd aren't from Hatsune Miku. Different characters help mix it up. I'm sure it would cost more money though to try and use another vocaloid. Even though Dancing all Night has a stationary Samba De Amigo-like button layout (which can lead gameplay to feel stale after a while) I'm a huge Persona fan. Characters look great and story appears to look good.

SK2 sold a lot better. Bakumatsu, the one that sold in late 2014 did really bad apparently.
Problem with SK2 might of been how much was produced. Enough was probably sold to offset production costs I'd assume. Magna is getting a localization release in June. It came out in October of last year. Wonder why it's taking longer for SK. Bigger game?

SK2 had a huge production. it Is the only other 3ds game that uses all system features and drains the battery as fast as smash. but I did not do smash numbers.
dlc did not help because they gave that away at such a low price
maybe ev ova also factor in to that games sales since it is all the same budget.

Marvelous's sales department doesn't consider the Kagura series to be a success; all three titles this year "failed to meet expectations," despite making profits (EV and Bon more so than SK2)
Exacerbated by the "failure" of the company's recent 3DS games (including a massive loss on the canceled game Kaio), the company reports a 77.5% decrease in profits compared to last fiscal term

Kagura producer Takagi is shocked at the report, calls it "poop"
jin115.com/archives/52080077.html
copypasted from 4chan, So if it still made a profit, what did they expect it to sell? More than SV? It had an amazing sell through for the PS4 version, the Vita sold close to the amount of SK2 week one, and the LEs for EV basically sold out. The game has sold 100K physical by now. Not a ton of advertisement outside an OVA and it came out the same day as Bloodborne and three other anime games as One Piece, D5, and SAO. It reuses a ton of assets from previous games. Bon Appetit literally reuses all its assets from SV and it was initially released digitally. SK2 had nearly no advertising, and it did come out the same day as a game that sold a million its first week, how much the fanbase crosses, I dont know but Takaki has tweeted pictures of youkai watch merch. It depends what kind of expectations Marvelous is having. Now I guess I'll preorder the physical of SK2. MarvEU says there are under 350 LEs available for preorder. Were they expecting a sell through like SV? from the look of it they think they are a major player and not some niche series they release two times around major games.
